remus setup negatively affects the mileage probably because it is more fun to twist the throttle! that being said, i would never go back to not having it. remus setup makes the rock twice as fun to ride IMO.

Two weeks ago, I got reminded about the use of and need for a fuel light. Long story short: I ran out of gas on an exit of the German autobahn... I thought that I was safe because I had 'only' 286km (179 mls) on the gauge and I generally do better than that. My conclusion is that at high(er) speeds, the rockster quite likes a bit of fuel. To be more precise: 1 liter to 13.5km (32 mpg(US); 38 mpg(IMP)) is not strange. However, during that same vacation, when touring through the Italian Alps and bearly exceeding 90km/hr (56mph), but accelerating quite a lot , I hit a record of 1:18.4 (44 mpg(US); 52mpg(IMP))... Once, I managed to get 350km (218 mls) on a single tank of gas. The tank was not completely empty, but after my experience in Germany...

41-42 mpg city, 45-46 highway. When I get a bad tank of gas, it goes down to 38 or so. I try to use premium all the time and think it makes a difference.

The lowest octane number we can buy in Europe is 91 (only available in Germany). Rest of Europe: minimum (regular) is 95. The sticker on the tank also indicates minimum 95. I have tried to put premium Shell V-Power and the like from competitors with octane numbers up to 98 and 100 but see no difference in fuel consumption. Nice marketing from the oil companies, but I don't see a difference in my wallet.

I just bought a 2003 rockster and the first tank i fuel up riding in the city got me exactly 190 km (for the whole 20,4 litres tank) before the engine stopped!!

Is this good? I think not...i also own a 1999 r850r and gets me 250 km under the same conditions easily!!!

can you compare my consuption to yours and tell me what you think??

Well, about 2 or three weeks ago I went to Skyline Drive (VA) with some friends, and I was very impressed with my mileage.

Highway (>75mph average): 50.89mpg
Mixed: 45mpg
Stop and go (City): >40mpg

The lowest I have seen was 37mpg and that was because I got caught in a horrible traffic jam, which caused me to lost my patience, "forcing" me to rely very heavily on the throttle grip!

I don't know if some Rocksters shipped with an Overdrive gear, but mine certainly didn't. My father had a 2003 R1150R Roadster, and in top gear it would cruise at very low RPMs (so low that a downshift was REQUIRED to accelerate at highway speeds). He used to get pretty excellent gas mileage.

Now I'm riding my '04 Rockster, with a 6th gear that feels very close to 5th. The manual listed it as the "SimplySport" transmission. I can accelerate in top gear, but mixed 85mph highway sprints and backroad sport riding will often yield 33mpg on a tank. Disappointing!

I rode a Triumph Sprint ST last week and averaged 45mpg over the course of a 30-mile sport ride through the twisties, averaging 50-85mph in 2nd and 3rd gear!

It was a little disheartening...

Rocksters did not have the overdrive 6th available. I think it was an option on the Roadster to have it either way, but most I have seen have the overdrive 6th. It also seems that my Rockster has a slightly higher 1st gear than the Roadsters. It's probably just me. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have the overdrive 6th. I don't have any complaints with my mpg with the lower 6th gear. Usually average 45-50 mpg. I keep my bike in as good of a state of tune as I can though. I'm really anal about that stuff.

i have the full remus system (y-pipe/cat eliminated) with a power commander and the smallest wunderlich screen. i'm only getting 32-33mpg. i keep the revs up in the twisties and i avg 80-85mph on the hgwy, with spurts of +90mph when needed...

and also agreed...fun, fun, fun!

I have a 14" Cee Bailey screen, full Remus w/RhineWest chip, weigh 210 lbs. As soon as the bike is warmed up, I flog it pretty hard. I get 39 mpg stop-n-go, and 46 running 80 - 85 mph on trips. I ran a lot slower my last tank because of the deer all over the place this time of year. It was 185 miles of a straight run between 65-70 mph; I got 50 mpg. Long live fuel injection.

04 Roadster
