IMHO seems like some kind of wedge on each side could be fashioned to tilt the shield back. Something akin to the mad stad set up using the plastic material like the Don C. block.

Re: Mad Stad Robo Brackets
Lots of ways to do it - the idea of the Mad Stad setup that was appealing is it's all adjustable. Height, tilt, distance forward. Problem seems to be actually getting one. I tried over a year ago and gave up.. perhaps other people will finally carry the project forward to completion, they have much more patience than I do with not such good business practices.redwing wrote:IMHO seems like some kind of wedge on each side could be fashioned to tilt the shield back. Yeah, my patience is getting thin. It is a custom deal so I am trying to just wait but customer service like this is just not in my DNA. It is more the lousy communication than the length of time. i am OK with waiting for something custom but just tell me the deal up front..... hopefully I'll have the correct parts by the end of the week.deilenberger wrote:Why does this not surprise me..Mike Figielski wrote:Apparently they sent me the wrong set up, got me confused with the other project for the stock shield mounts. Since the Madstad bracket mounts to the bike,it will indeed make a difference.deilenberger wrote:The difference is how the bracket mounts to the bike, not how the windshield mounts to the brackets - that remains the same, so it shouldn't change the mounting of the Mad Stad bracket.. Maybe this explains the problems you are experiencing!

Their website lists one for the standard BMW touring mount and any windshields that mount to it.. but I'd like to hear from a member here first who actually got one before I commit to one.Mike Figielski wrote:If they have an off the shelf solution for your bike I would not hesitate to order one. I saw that Don but the pics are on a 2011 or later bike. I think they messed up their application for it. Seems like they made one for someone's 2011 bike and did not realize the earlier bikes were different.

Oh yeah, still nothing from them......
Spoke too soon, got a UPS notification from them so I should have the right parts on Thursday. We'll see....

Re: Mad Stad Robo Brackets
Finally got the correct brackets and mount for my 2007 with Ztechnik brackets. Got it mounted and went for a ride this weekend. I was a little surprised that the base plate they sent was only about 6" tall. All of the others I have seen were taller than that. I ordered the 20" shield and adjusted it throughout the ride trying to get optimal air flow. I wanted to be able to see over the top of the shield and still have quiet air. I wear ear plugs so I was mostly concerned with turbulence and less so with noise. I also like to ride with my shield partly open in warm weather.
I previously had a tall Ztechnik shield with an MRA X-creen adjustable deflector on it like this:
http://www.twistedthrottle.com/mra-x-cr ... de-bolt-on . That set up was good but I still had a small amount of wind noise unless I adjusted it high enough that I was partially looking through the top of the deflector which can be distracting at times. I was trying to improve on the Ztechnik set up so I started the 7 week long process of getting Madstad Engineering to make a set up to fit my Ztechnik mounts which I prefer to the OEM mounts from BMW.
I did prefer the Madstad screen in the heat Sunday as it is narrower than the Ztechnik screen and allowed more air underneath and around the shield. This helped my helmet and Aerostitch vents work much better than with the Ztechnik and it was not any louder or more turbulent. I tried every conceivable position and I am still playing with it. Still found the only way to eliminate air noise and minor turbulence totally was to adjust it so I was looking partially through the top of the shield. This led me to decide to mount the MRA deflector to the Madstad shield. I really liked the effect the MRA deflector had when added to the Ztechnik shield so I figured why not try it on the Madstad shield. Have not test ridden it this way yet but expect it will solve any remaining wind noise. 1st 2 pics below are of the tall Ztechink screen with the MRA deflector. The remaining pics are of the Madstad set up with the MRA deflector.

Re: Mad Stad Robo Brackets
Interesting. Saw one on a friends new F800GS this past week at the RA rally..
I thought on his the knobs faced outward. My overall impression - it's a bit too much for me. Too much metal on the moveable part of the steering. I'd be a tad afraid of it causing a tank slapper - perhaps an adjustable steering damper might be in order. The chap who had it was the original designer of a lot of the old gear for airheads (like Reynold racks and the Brown sidestand), he felt it was somewhat overbuilt, and could be smaller and lighter, but he likes how it works so he's keeping it for now. Wouldn't surprise me to see him design something to do the same sort of thing.
I'll be very interested in what your longer term feelings on it are. Mebbe I should take a ride up to your place and try it out..
BTW - the birthday gifts arrived safe and exactly what I wanted (funny how that works when I talked to you and then told SWMBO what I wanted..
) In case anyone is wondering, I decided to ask SWMBO for Mike's kit for metal tank fittings as a birthday present. I may take some pics of the install and do an MOA/hexhead's DIY of the installation. At the least I'll take some photos.

Re: Mad Stad Robo Brackets
Hi Don,
I agree it might be a little Rube Goldberg, but that is mostly due to the fact that it has to mount up to windshield brackets vs bolting directly to a fairing in place of an original shield. The set up on my friend's Tiger 1050 is a cleaner look. The whole thing is actually lighter than the ZTechnik set up I had and about the same as the OEM brackets and shield. The base plate is thin aluminum. Zero issues with tank slappers and I had it up to 90mph Sunday. Very stable and the air coming under the shield makes it work very well especially with reducing turbulence. Not sure about the knobs. Since I got it in 2 shipments and they were replacing some of the brackets, I had to assemble the brackets and had no pics or instructions to go by. Ended up looking on their site and figuring it out from pics on other bikes. Tried it 4 different ways before everything lined up. Easy to adjust where the knobs are now but maybe I can figure out a way to swap the pieces around so the knobs are on the outside.
Glad you got your B-day gift - happy Birthday! Let me know how the install goes.
Mike

after much trial and error i have finally gotten the correct mounting plate and brackets that fit the stock BMW touring windshield bracket. tomorrow (7/1) i will receive the actually windshield and can mount it and give it a good test. i love the madstad on my 2011 F650GS twin, i hope this is just as good.

If the mail man delivers my package this am, I will install the Madstad on my 2013 R1200R today before I depart for a 2600 mile road trip. The first mounting plate did not fit. The fellows at Madstad were great and very accommodating. Wish me luck !

GOOD LUCK! I think if you manage this you'll be the first one here with a Madstad successfully mounted to their bike. Many have tried, none succeeded.Bradkap wrote:If the mail man delivers my package this am, I will install the Madstad on my 2013 R1200R today before I depart for a 2600 mile road trip. One thought - an old rule of thumb - never leave for a long trip with a brand-new piece of gear on the bike. Sometimes the new gear just doesn't work like you hoped it would.

i have a MadStad on my '07 with the tall BMW touring windshield bracket and it works much better then any previous screen i have tried. it's very quiet but i do get a lot of air on my chest and have been working with Cody at MadStad to make a windshield with winglets to mount on the shorter BMW sport shield bracket. i have tried two Cee Bailys (gen 1 and Gen 2) as well as a CalSci and maybe one other screen and there is no comparison to the MadStad. anyone thinking of putting a MadStad on needs to talk to Cody, he will hook you up with exactly what you need.GOOD LUCK! Jeez? Take a closer look at the photos. It's mounted to a Z-Technic windshield bracket. That isn't what most of us have. I'm waiting for photos of it mounted to a stock touring bracket.. and I have no "beef" with MadStat aside from them being quite unresponsive when I tried to get a bracket made by providing them with a stock BMW touring bracket for a pattern. My problem was getting any status update and getting my bracket back.SF_Hooligan wrote:I get that you have a beef with Madstad, but aren't there photos a few posts above this post with a successfully mounted Madstad?
