Mad Stad Robo Brackets

Post by AncientMariner »

Just saw a BMW F560 outfitted with a windshield using Mad Stad Robo Brackets. The brackets allow for a wide range of lift, tilt and offset adjustments. It looked pretty slick and the owner was very happy with it. He had recently traded an RT and was used to his creature comforts.

Is anyone here on the forum using the Mad Stad system? I'm guessing prolly not since no one has mentioned it so far.

I have written to Mad Stad to see if it would be feasible and possible to intsall just their Robo Brackets on my existing BMW windshiel bracket and Cee Bailys windshield. I will update when I have a response. In the meantime, check out Mad Stad at

Bruce. I have a complete MadStad system from my F800ST here at the house. You're welcome to play with the pieces all you want. From the madstad web site, it looks like you need a plate to adapt from the BMW mount points to the adjustable madstad mounters.

My ultimate decision on the Madstad shield was that it was no better or worse than the oem shield. It also seems to reduce gas mpg, but that was just an impression, not measured.

I've used the Madstad brackets on several bikes including an F800S and my current Yamaha Super Tenere. Mark's a good guy and builds a great product. Hope it works out for you.

Brice, The screen makes the package pretty large, but I should be able to carry it on the bike. So plan on picking it up at the next breakfast.

Sorry to bail on you this weekend. I was really sick Sat and Sun. Feeling better today and will go to work tomorrow.

Bob,

Glad you are feeling better. Clearly it was a case, Saturday morning, of Bob Ain't Startin'. I had breakfast at Goulds on the way home and Helen told me you had been in Saturday and she felt bad for you because you looked so ill.

As for the Mad Stad, I think it would be well to start off with just the brackets and see what it is going to look like.

Bruce,

I tried getting Mad-Stad (Bruce) to consider making an R1200R specific bracket/mounting. I sent him my spare touring windshield mount to use to get dimensions off. After three months - with very nebulous responses when I asked how it was going, I asked for the return of my bracket. That took a few more weeks to happen.

Perhaps if he's close to you and you can drop in on him the experience might be different, but I came away unimpressed with his business acumen.

He's advertising one on his website.. I'm guessing he did get the dimensions off my bracket.. nice (not) that he let me know.

I notice on the Mad Stad website that the R1200R shown is 2011 which uses a different screen mount bracket to the earlier model(even though the screen itself is the same). Maybe this explains the problems you are experiencing!

I sent an e-mail asking if I could buy just the brackets, no repondo.
Anyone know?
I don't need the windshield...

The difference is how the bracket mounts to the bike, not how the windshield mounts to the brackets - that remains the same, so it shouldn't change the mounting of the Mad Stad bracket.. ("shouldn't" being the operative word..)

after a bit of trial and error the correct mounting plate (for the BMW touring windshield bracket) along with the robo brackets and the windshield should have been sent out today, 6/4, once i receive it and have it mounted i will post some pics.

I have one coming from them also but to mount to the Z-Technik mounts which are much stouter than the BMW bracket. Will also post when i get it installed. Took a month so hopefully it is worth it. :D

Apparently they sent me the wrong set up, got me confused with the other project for the stock shield mounts. After a month it looks like it will be another week to get the correct stuff sent UGGH!
