Sub System Case

Hi, Well for my 5 cents worth, I don't think there are any substitute for the BMW System cases - both in fit, finish and aesthetics. They are a perfect fit to the hooks and brackets and I feel very secure running at 70 mph they won't fall off. I know there are the Panniers that a lot of adventure ri...

Vibration at about 2000 RPM

I've done a search, but couldn't find a related thread. After the last trip to the dealer for a gas leak, I now noticed a vibration under load (like starting from a dead start) at around 1800 - 2000 rpm. I don't think it was there before - so I'd have to say it was new? At first I thought it might h...

I just had a set of bags I bought on eBay rekeyed by my local BMW dealer - 441 Cycle - they charged me $20 - which I thought was very reasonable - it took 15 minutes and I bought $100 of stuff. More important an excuse to go to the dealer and walk around the new models.

Monkey: Thanks for the input, I'll discuss the repaint process with my dealer, as I'm not for pulling apart the bike for an ugly stain - my brother, a REAL biker (not like me who spends more time cleaning and accessorizing) said: you won't brake down from a stain, but if they tear your bike apart th...

TicTac50 Thanks for offer - I can bring the Brillo - BUT that won't be necessary - BMW called today and said they will have the case repainted at their expense. So now I'm in a dilemma, if I should have the bike broken down, repainted and reassembled or live with the stain????? My gut reaction is th...

DK, Thanks much for your reply - I agree, seems rather short sided on BMW's side to paint and clear coat a part that is inevitably going to come in contact with gas - either by a malfunctioning component or just plain old gas spillage from filling up. I've put a claim into BMW, they committed to not...

Duh, I guess I could of done that - I didn't even think they would list motorcycles - but thanks for the info.

I called BMW Motorrad today and filed a claim - they were not overly anxious to commit to a new transmission housing, but well see.

Wondering when did you have that done? Was your bike one of the recalled for the gas leak as well?

My dealer didn't say what they were going to do - other than take action as per the recall, but wondering if any of you guys have a 'friend' at a dealer that we could see the actual Recall notice and find out what it specially applied to.

OK, so we are talking about stains - I stained my driveway using a Silicone based Tire Dressing. I just had it pressure washed - no help. Looks as bad as it was. Just back from Home Depot - bought some Concrete Cleaner - will see if that helps, but wondering if there were any other suggestions?

BTW: Just talked with the Easy Off folks - they don't recommend the oven cleaner on aluminum - which I assume the transmission case is made of?

So far the DAWN sounds like the most non-volatile solution.

Tic Tac 50
Thanks, I'll try that after the DAWN. DAWN would appear to be less volatile - Easy Off might work OK - just concerned about the interaction with the aluminum?

Dauntless and Boxer: Thanks for the tip - I'll give DAWN a shot - can't hurt. Unfortunately my stain has been there for a few months. Seems rather strange that you build such a great bike and use a paint that is easily damaged by of all things - GAS. Wow who would of thought you would have gas aroun...

Recall No Charge Gas Leak Repair

I just posted about the leak on my '02, but the dealer said there was a recall on the gas leak issue. Not sure how far back that applies. They fixed it under warranty.

However, I'm looking for a solution to the yellow stains the gas leak caused on the transmission case.

Gas Stains on Transmission

Can't find anything by SEARCHING, so I'm posting a new topic for some feedback. I had a GAS leak on my R1150RA, which resulted in yellow/brown stains on the transmission case. Pretty ugly. The 'dealer' says nothing will take it off, and I've tried any number of cleaners etc. He said lightly mist it ...

I notice that most of the fuel line clamps I could see (without taking the tank off) are the spring type - are there better clamps I should insist they replace them with - since I'm paying the tab?

Same Fuel Leak Problem

Started out on an evening ride and just before pulling out of the driveway I smelled gas - thought Hmmm, exhaust pretty rich today! Then glanced down to see gas puddle forming under bike - I think we will delay this ride. So after doing a seach, found Capt. Blackadder had posted the EXACT problem I ...
