Lock Installation

Post by celticus »

Can anyone tell me if there is a trick to installing the lock in BMW hard bags? I just got mine today and if there is a wrong way I am likely to try it first if I don't have adult supervision.

It has been a while since I put mine in, but I seem to remember that on the bottom of the lock cylinder, the final tab that locks it is sticks out a ways. Look down into the hole and you can see the recess that it goes into. I put the key in the lock and just pushed the cylinder in until it bottom out, pulled the key out and it all worked.

Lock Installation

Thanks , The new locks are slightly different. I did get them in quite easily as a matter of fact. The next problem I had was getting the lids open. The instructions were on the inside of the bags, locked up.
I finally found that I had to push straight down to open the lids. These new ones are different from the ones I had on my 98 K1200RS.

Michael,

Thanks a bunch for posting that link! :D I needed to re-key some bags I bought on eBay, and those step-by-step instructions are great.

Merry Christmas!

I just had a set of bags I bought on eBay rekeyed by my local BMW dealer - 441 Cycle - they charged me $20 - which I thought was very reasonable - it took 15 minutes and I bought $100 of stuff. More important an excuse to go to the dealer and walk around the new models.
