Re: Help with windshield install on a '12 R12R
Love the search function… thanks... Completed the sport screen bracket mount but I can't install the screen with the hardware that was provided... seems like there should be some rubber grommets, because the screen is "loose" when the metal inserts are placed through the holes. http://lh3...

Re: LED Lamp - Canbus resistor
[quote="Shakey"]I'm a fan of replacing the side / parking / position light bulb with an LED equivalent because I think it stands out even against the headlight beam to make you very noticeable to other road users. With Canbus, of course, the resistance of an LED is too high and is interpre...

Re: Mail order "custom" seat?
Had a nice long ride today. I realize that they say that the seat will take 1000miles to break in, but all I can say is "wow". I know the BMW seat is vinyl covered misery, and a splintery, rusting morning star would make a more comfortable seat, but Rich did right by me. After almost 4 hou...

Re: Mail order "custom" seat?
So, how did the seat turn out for you? Well, I got it on Tues, but as circumstances were, I haven't gotten the chance to ride yet. We are looking at high 50's today and tomorrow, so I expect to put a couple hundred miles on, and will post the results then. Looks nice, but you can't judge a book... ...

Re: '12 r12r - fluid from vent hose by left peg
I'm still not convinced it was gas. As I said earlier, when I came out 3 hours later the first spot was still there. Gas would definilty have evaporated in 3 hours. So, thats why I'm still thinking it was oil, for whatever reason...

Re: '12 r12r - fluid from vent hose by left peg
Update: This morning there is not a drop, and I left her on the side stand. And, it rained last night (and this morning) so I didn't bother trying to look at yesterdays spots at my office lot.
Oh well, it remains a mystery i guess...

Re: '12 r12r - fluid from vent hose by left peg
OK, I'm obviously new to R12Rs but if you overfilled the crankcase -- even if you drained some of the excess -- it's possible that oil vapors made their way to the air box. Could that hose be an air box vent? I've seen this same scenario with other bikes, so assuming the RR has an air box drain, my...

Re: '12 r12r - fluid from vent hose by left peg
That hose is likely the fuel vent hose, by way of the canister - if you've got one. Was the first puddle still there when you went back and saw the second, smaller puddle? If not, it wasn't oil. As Mogu implies - this could be gas. When I fill my tank way up and put it on the sidestand, I get a bit...

'12 r12r - fluid from vent hose by left peg
Parked at my office this morning, and put her on the sidestand. I basically always use the center stand, so this is pretty much the first time I have left her on the ss for more then a few minutes. I came out at lunch and noticed a 8" spot under the left peg. Not sure if the spot was there or n...

Re: Mail order "custom" seat?
Well, I finally decided and went with Rich's... He got my seat on the 27th, and called me two days ago saying it was ready to ship. $550 delivered, with black leather. I should see it by Tuesday, and should be able to take advantage of the forcasted 60 deg weather on Wednesday. I'll post some photos...

Re: F800GS/Aprila Mirrors on an R1200R - my stupid story
Sorry for your pain, but I'd love the sleeves. I've got the mounts but Not the sleeves. With the mounts and wideners, the mirrors sit higher and of course wider than the F800GS mirrors which of course look a lot better without adapter mounts and wideners..... Anyway I'd love the rubber like sleeves...

F800GS/Aprila Mirrors on an R1200R - my stupid story
So, I get in my head that I want to put the slick looking F800GS mirrors on my R1200R. I read a post here that talks about the BMW mirrors being the same as what are installed on an Aprila, which are about $50 less each, except that the base/mounts are different on the Aprila (different threads supp...

Re: Swapped battery, now heated grips don't heat - 2012 R120
Brand new bike? And you just 'wanted' a special hi tech battery? For??? Low weight? Well, if I must explain my reasoning... Where I park for the winter, I do not have access to an outlet, therefore I can not use a trickle charger. Under normal circumstances, the bike would sit for months, without r...

Re: Swapped battery, now heated grips don't heat - 2012 R120
Is your bike running when your testing the grips? How many Amps is your battery? Shorai says the 21A version is required for our bikes. Yes, I took a couple hour ride today, after installing the ballistic battery. Made a couple of stops, so I started up a few times. Grips never worked at all. I bou...

Re: Swapped battery, now heated grips don't heat - 2012 R120
Interesting. I went and took out the LiFePo battery and put the stock AGM battery in, and voila, the grips worked. I didn't bother putting the ballistic battery back in yet. They do say (the battery mfgr) that the initial start will lower voltage quite a bit, while the chemestry "wakes up"...

Swapped battery, now heated grips don't heat - 2012 R1200R
I can't imagine that its related, but I took my battery out today, to replace it with a ballistic performance LiFePo battery, and when I installed it, I no longer have heated grips... Everything was off, no key in, I disco'd the neg cable, then the pos. Installed in reverse. There are only the two c...

Mail order "custom" seat?
I want to replace the seat on my '12 R12R. As there are no ride-in custom seat makers anywhere near me, I was considering Rich's custom seats in Wa. Supposedly, you send him a few photos of yourself sitting on your bike a couple of different ways, and he makes you a "kinda" custom seat. I ...

Re: '12 r12r - Will disconnecting the battery cause a code?
It seems like a lot of work to simply avoid setting the time on the clock, are there any other reasons to do this? My bike has been sitting for two weeks now, finally got cold and snowy here, and I am about to remove the battery and hook it to the trickle charger until spring. No, now that I know t...

Re: '12 r12r - Will disconnecting the battery cause a code?
FYI: Here's a trick mechanics (auto type) use when removing a battery from a new multi electronic gizmo equipped auto. Naturally adapted to R1200R use. I soldered the wires that I use for my electronic gear and battery tender directly on to the stock wires that attach to the battery. On a car you c...
