Re: Planning a long trip, need help!

The longest trip I did was SF to Vegas, bout 570 miles each way. Having a comfy seat made a huge difference (Sargent), and the throttlemaster was great, as I've had numb hands before from gripping the throttle for six hours straight. I've heard a scrunchy can be used as a cruise control too. Don't t...

Re: Helmet Holder?

I've actually wondered about this too, but not for my personal helmet. Sometimes I'd like to carry a helmet on the bike while riding to go pick up a passenger, but the location of the stock helmet lock makes it almost impossible. On my old bike I could ride with a helmet hooked on to the underside o...

bad mechanics

I took the bike in to Honda Hollywood which is the closest BMW dealership to me, and the morons at the service department kept the bike for a week and then told me there was nothing wrong with it. They said they test rode it and couldn't find any problems and that they hooked it up to their diagnost...

handlebar clamp question

Hey guys, does anyone know if the handlebar clamps on the R1150R are the same specifications and distance from each other as on the R1200GS? I want to buy a Touratech GPS Mount Adapter for the R1200GS and put it on my 04 R1150R but their return policy is rather strict and I'd like to be more certain...

I'll be taking her in on Thursday. Damn, I was hoping for a simpler (and cheaper) solution. No chance it's just the charcoal canister? Oh well, thanks a bunch guys.

thanks for the responses

thanks for the helpful responses. I took out the spark plugs, they look fine and were seated pretty well. I think I cracked one of the rubber gaskets on the coil while taking out the plug, but I don't see how that might affect things. When you say the "coil pack" do you mean the coil that ...

plugs seem okay

I jiggled the plugs and they seem firm. If the plugs are loose, would that cause the engine to only surge at certain RPMs? It seems like loose plugs would affect the engine at all RPMs.

oops

sorry, I have a 2004 r1150r , with 18000 miles. It had its annual tuneup about three months ago. After the tuneup I did have a problem with the bike occasionally dying at intersections, but the dealer checked it out and said the idle was just set to low so they dialed it up. It's a daily commuter an...

surging at 5000 rpms?

Help! Lately I've been experiencing some sort of surging from my bike at about 5000 rpms. The tach bounces up and down and the bike bucks until I either shift or accelerate above 5500 rpms or decelerate below 4900 rpms. It happens in all gears and is quite annoying. I've heard or surging, but all th...

after warranty help

Wow, thanks for the advice on asking for the after warranty work. I called the shop and they said they'd contact BMW for me and try to get them to pay for it. He said he thinks there's a decent chance that they should be able to work something out. I should know tomorrow, fingers crossed!

thanks

Thanks for the responses. Well the $700 repair is actually less than the cost of a new final drive, so I guess I should be grateful. Besides which, I don't have a garage to work on it anyways. Luckily the bmw dealerships around here service police bikes, so the mechanics should be pretty experienced...

final drive bearing failure?

I have an 04 with about 18000 miles on it, and I notice that there's oil/grease on my rear wheel and paralever. I wipe it off and decide to keep an eye on it. A few days later, there's quite a bit more on the rim and around the final drive bellow. I take it in to the dealership and he says after an ...

grip replacement

Normally I don't ride without gloves. But the other day I was just changing parking spaces so I didn't wear gloves, and I felt on the underside of the grips what feels like could be the heating element for the heated grips. I guess I didn't notice the rubber on the grips had worn almost all the way ...

Thanks for the replies. I feel better about the whole situation now. I never knew about the tps reset thing though. I did a search on it and found some easy instructions for it. Would the dealer have done this during the 18k service? I'm assuming it won't hurt to do it again even if he did do it. I ...

covering a problem?

So last month I took my 04 r1150r in for an 18000 mile service. Paid the $500+, brought it home. The bike is my daily commuter, so I do a lot of stop and go riding. I notice the bike runs a little rough, and occasionally when I pull in the clutch to come to a stop the bike dies, even when fully warm...

thanks, I used a nail and a hammer to tap it out, just like you said. Good thing I didn't try to drill it out! I'm going to try to find some long rivets to use, otherwise I'll just use a nut and screw like you said.

changing to full size left case

Can anyone help me out with some instruction on how to change my left system case to a full size case? I've removed the can, purchased a full size left inner case, and am in the process of trying to change over the old locking mechanism to the new case. I've drilled out the rivets on the inside of t...

thanks for responding everyone, but I actually already did the muffler removal mod and I'm lovin it! It looks like everyone thought I meant the bracket to mount the muffler lower. I'm actually looking for a bracket to add a mounting point to the actual RT case, as the one built into the case doesn't...
