full size RT case bracket

Post by seisouso »

I read in a post that BMW offers a police retrofit kit to install a new bracket allowing use of an RT case on the r1150r, but I can't seem to find any other info on it. If this part exists, can anyone give me a heads up on where to find it? I just bought a full size left RT case and need to figure out a way to attach the thing now.

There is a BMW exhaust lowering kit...I have a pic somewhere..sorry but I don't have part numbers (someone else may)..it might even be for the GS and fits our bike..not sure.

The kit has a bent piece of pipe that goes between the cat and the can to point the exhaust lower..and it has a new mounting bracket that also has a new foot for the RT case to sit on.

I'll post my pic if I can find it.

I did the exhaust lowering thing last year. I bought the BMW bent pipe and the relocator for the cases. I decided to not but the way too expensive sheild. Instead I ground the original heat sheild to fit. It was simple but it took four tries to get it right. Grind check, grind fit check. It looks like a factory unit,if you don't get on your hands and knees.

The kit I saw (from DJ's pics I recall) had a '99' part number. When I tried to get one in Aus, I was told the '99' designation was peculiar to BMW in the USA. Therefore, no luck here in Australia. Any stateside BMW dealer should know what the go is. Maybe do a Google on 'BMW exhaust lowering kit'.

The parts you need are

Mount brackets (99 99 0 000 489)
Adaptor pipe (99 99 0 000 491)

You will find it here http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/fiche.asp

use order by part No to search.

Or you could do it the way lots of us here have done by removing the can and fitting a short tail piece to the cat, and a bracket to the rt case.

Cheap and cheerfull and sounds like bike should.

thanks for the replies

thanks for responding everyone, but I actually already did the muffler removal mod and I'm lovin it! It looks like everyone thought I meant the bracket to mount the muffler lower. I'm actually looking for a bracket to add a mounting point to the actual RT case, as the one built into the case doesn't line up with the mounting point above the passenger footpegs. I've seen some homemade ones when I do a search, but I'm hoping to find a ready-made one.

There are a few options for this bracket that you need.

There is this..I don't know who makes it..and you may loose the pillion foot peg.

I made my own..a lot of work..and not really needed with option three.

This is the way to go...I've seen a few different home made jobs..that all work well..remember there is not much load on it..other than to stop the case swinging in and out..and stop it from touching the wheel.

Hope these pics help.

sounds like I'll be heading out to home depot or lowes to find some L brackets to bolt on. Thanks a bunch for the extra pics!
