Re: UK BUYER WANTS ROCKSTER
I have promised a friend I'd sell mine to him, but if he doesn't pull through on his tentative intention, it will go on the market this spring when there are more potential buyers looking to enjoy the weather on two wheels. But even if my friend flakes, you unfortunately are nearly halfway around th...

Re: Best Cold Gear
I have a question: how has everyone's heated gear held up over the past 7-8 years of using it? My Gerbings have served me well during this time, and the company has been very accommodating to ensure that their customers are satisfied. I agree with another post about getting the full jacket liner, as...

Re: Rear Wheel Revolves ! - any ideas ?
I have noticed this and didn't give it a 2nd thought. Blind faith in BMW I guess. Nice to know there is an explanation to this. Thx!

Re: Thank God for German heavy metal
Here's my testimonial: This past May I was riding past Kirkwood Ski Resort on my R1200C Cruiser. The Jeep in front of me (4x4, lifted suspension) rode over a helmet-sized boulder with nary a blink. I managed to steer my front wheel clear, but the header and engine took the brunt of the impact. I was...

Slam on the brakes; it should stop in short order.

Re: xmas day ride
I had an R1200C Cruiser for 9 yrs; bought my Rockster 5 yrs ago to share the stable. There's enough contrast between the two to warrant keeping both. This past May I cracked the engine block on the Cruiser near Kirkwood Ski Resort when I ran over a helmet sized boulder in the road. Long story short,...

Re: Lane splitting
Lane splitting is allowed and is so stated on the California Highway Patrol website. In their FAQ section it says: Can motorcycle riders "split" lanes and ride between other vehicles? Lane splitting by motorcycles is permissible but must be done in a safe and prudent manner. Obviously the...

Re: Lane splitting
In PA, lane splitting is apparently considered the most egregious breech of driving etiquette out there. Nothing frosts up those in cages more than to have a bike squeeze by. I've had drivers try to block me by moving over and even opening the door. Also had coffee thrown at me and even a beer bott...

Re: Lane splitting
On lane-splitting, so in States that are illegal, what will happen if a bike lane split? Vigilante justice, public hanging or what? It is unimaginable to me. I believe it is illegal in every state in the USA except for California, where there is no stipulation either way. Our cops do it. For those ...

Yeah, what he said. I can't get much more than an extra 10 mpg no matter how hard I try, so 13.268 seems bogus. Nice windbreaker tho'.
BTW, how are they going to know if you have earplugs in if you're wearing a helmet?
The same way they know when pulling you over for wearing silk boxers.

Re: Hello, My Name is Ves and I'm a Rockstaholic
I also do not notice any problems with the ABS at low speeds, and perhaps it is because I've gotten accustomed to the amount of squeeze needed to maneuver the system. There's enough compression braking from the engine at the low speeds that I generally don't use that much brake anyway.

Re: lowering the Rockster
Most all my jeans say I'm of 30" inseam also (the waist varies, but it is 31" give or take an inch). The boot cuffs are frayed, so let's just say that I barely make the cut. I have the low seat option which still has me on the balls of both feet while straddling the bike. Getting the kicks...

If I'm not mistaken, my 12K service came to around $450 also. And my shop did not resort to baling wire and duct tape.

Re: Opinion of Rockster
I recently took a vacation ride from Sacramento, CA to Flagstaff, AZ on my Rockster. The past several years it has been with my R1200C, but I broke the engine when I hit a boulder. So, it was a last minute scramble to outfit my Rock with some soft luggage. The bike fits me fine for just about everyt...

Re: Long trip Issues
My mechanic told me the reason the engine seized is because that was NOT the radiator cap. Hadn't needed to rotate the tires yet, but repacking the muffler didn't seem to stay put. Every time I opened up the exhaust was like firing off shotgun pellets. So what's the secret? Do I pack those bearings ...

Re: Long trip Issues
Bike should do fine as long as you've been maintaining it well; as others have commented, 1200 miles is really nothing. Some things I recommend packing: 12V air compressor. Tire plug kit. Heated clothing (believe me, one day you're in 100+ degree heat, next day you see snow flurries). Drinking water...

Re: Renewed confidence in BMW!!
My '04 Rockster has almost 13,000 miles on it, but that's only because I ride my '99 Cruiser more often. I've logged nearly 75,000 miles on it, having recently replaced the bearings on the rear drive. I'm not sure if that was a common failure, but one rider's opinion is that it shouldn't happen at a...
