Just got my issue of Motorcycle Consumer News today and they have an article on installing headlight modulators. Ironically, the author discusses installing one on an R1150R (very easy). Can't recall the manufacturer, but it did feature a sensor, so it only works during daylight hours.

Having owned both models, I have to say the handling characteristics are pretty similar. I had a 2000 R1100R and now have an 05 R1150R, both shod with Metzeler Z6 tires (which I highly recommend) and both bikes handle very well, wet or dry. The major differences are in the power delivery and ergonom...

I believe you can find the part #s you need by going to my dealer's site: http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com and clicking on "Online Catalog" on the home page. They have a complete "parts fiche" where you can search parts and numbers. This assumes, of course, that the part # is the...

Yet another vote for Metzeler Z6 front and rear. I put a pair on my last BMW (R1100R) and they changed the bike dramatically (for the better). Now, on my 1150 with just 5500 miles, the front stock Dunlop is shot and I can't wait to slap a pair of Z6's on it.

My advice is to do a valve adjust and throttle body syncronization. Even with low mileage, those two things can get out of whack. Even a little out of adjustment can make a big diff in terms of surging. In my experience, having those two things done (get used to it -- it's standard service every 6K ...

I think that's right. If you look down at where the throttle cable meets the butterfly wheel next to the intake, you'll see it turning as you move the "choke" lever -- just as if you turned the throttle. So instead of constricting air flow, it gives it more fuel. At least, that's how I und...

Former R1100R owner ringing in... The "choke" is really a fuel richener -- does exactly the same thing as turning the throttle a tad. Push all the way forward (on the 1100, down on the 1150) when starting, then release it to return to middle position for warm up. You should shut it off com...

I just checked and I have one brochure from 2003 and another from 2004. They seem identical except the 2003 brochure is for the R850R/R1150R (which I assume means it was intended for Europe). I'd like to keep the 04 brochure, but you're welcome to the other one if you want. Just PM with your address...

My old R1100R always shifted clunky...until I poured in Red Line. Shifted muich better after that. Good stuff. Considering "shifting" to Red Line in my 1150. Very high quality stuff IMHO.

Yeah, lowering the bike ain't cheap. I will definitely try shaving the seat before I go that route. Honestly, I have gotten used to it and it really doesn't bother me unless I stop on a steeply crowned road. Haven't dropped it yet (knock on wood).

Let me know how your seat project turns out!

Hey Joe, welcome. I, too, suffer from tip-toe-itis, being 5'5" with a 28" inseam. I have the low seat and, like you, have to do the old backwards foot paddle to get out of the garage. I must have really strong toenails, as I can do this without too much trouble (and there's downward slope ...

2005 1150R (no ABS) dark metallic blue, purchased new last November from Max BMS here in New Hampshire. Only put about 200 miles on it before the snow fell (that was one long winter, with a new bike in the garage!). Traded a 2000 R1100R, which I had bought used and really enjoyed (except the clunky ...

Welcome from another owner of a dark metallic blue beakster (don't see many in that color...has anyone mentioned it handles better than the other colors?). Great trip report in Great Rides. Glad to hear I was right (for once). Everyone on this board has helped me and now it was my turn.

Not a critical part, I'm sure. And that's from someone who typically finds an extra washer or nut on the garage floor when I'm done with a mechanical project!

Ride safe..

Let me chime in... Having owned both a 2000 R1100R and now an 05 1150R, I think it's important to note that there are some significant ergonomic differences between the two. The 1100 has an adjustable seat that goes a tad lower than the 1150R with the low saddle (I have a 28" inseam and use my ...

I think I have it! I believe this is the little cover that goes on the front brake hydraulic "junction box" (for lack of a better term) just to the side of the steering head. Facing your bike from in front, just to the left of the steering head you will see this junction, where the brake l...
