First Post Wreck Ride

Post by yjleesvrr »

3 hours shy of two weeks since the lowside on my Harley, I rode a motorcycle for the first time again tonight. My Roadster is in Blacksburg, so I took my SV650 for a spin from Haymarket on Route 15/234 to Catharpin to Manassas and then via I-66 back to Haymarket. I just got the SV back from the mods/maintenance I had done on it. Both the bike and the sheer act of riding felt great. While I was certainly looking forward to getting back on the saddle again, you never know what frame of mind you're going to be in when you tackle something that bit you.

The circular trip around what in essence is the perimeter around the Manassas Battlefield (Bull Run) was only about 23 miles. But it's the start of riding as one who has laid it down. As they say, there are two types of riders. Those who've gone down, and those who will.

YJ,

I missed hearing about your lay down. Hope you & the HD are coming out of it as good as new. Take care on that ice & sand back there.

Ric - Sort of. It was actually a series of mistakes on my part. See my other thread.

Certainly very few motorcycles have the stopping ability of the R1150R and especially the SV650. But the Dyna Super Glide Sport has dual disks up front and for a cruiser has very good stopping power.

I was implying that: when ya ride an SV...then hop on a RR...then hop on an H-D.....most anyone would have their braking power to weight ratio a bit skewed for a bit. Until you get yourself re-calibrated. Heavier bikes tend to have an under-steer feel about them as well.

True, and sportier bikes generally give you more room for error.

I have to admit I put the RR's bikes to good use this morning on the way to a Sunday breakfast group. Daydreaming at a Y-intersection where I was supposed to yield and noticed at the last second I was going to hit a Yukon!

Nice clean panic stop, no-ABS kick in, and the only excitement was a wide-eyed passenger in the SUV! Whoops!
