About 8 liters / 100 kms ; everybody says its too much , but nobody can explain it .
All inputs welcome
Configuration :
- special 'black rockster' edition (only in Belgium sold !!! )
- 8.000 kms
- 05 gears box (is this normal ? I hear mostly 06 gears box)
- laser pipe

That is pretty lousy mileage, but if your Rock is anything like mine, it will improve significantly until the motor is fully broken in. When mine was new, it got barely 40mpgs. After the 12,000 mile service its 47/48. I expect mileage will keep increasing until 20,000 or so.
I have never heard of a 5 speed Rockster, but if you have just 5 gears then it seems to me your RPMs at speed will be a bit higher that a 6 speed or overdrive box, which will increase fuel consumption.
A careful throttle body sync and valve adjustment might help also.

How do you know that your rockster has only 5 gears?

I figured out that unless I'm going over 55-60 mph, my rock won't shift into 6th/overdrive.

8-liters/100-km is about 2-gallons US/62-miles - 31-miles/gallon.

That's not too great of a gas mileage. But my Rockster also has about 35-miles/gallon on average. Not too great either.

Definitely make sure that the valves are correctly adjusted AND the throttlebodies synchronized. Otherwise, you're wasting a lot of gas and the motorcycle isn't running too good.

That mileage sounds really bad. If I beat the sh*t out of my bike, I can get the mileage down to about 1:13.4, so 1 liter for every 13.4km. If I take it easy and do not run over 110km/hr on highways, I can easily bring mileage up to around 1:16. My record is 1:18.4...

I experienced bad mileage together with a less smooth running engine at around 9000km as well. But my bike showed loss of torque and some stuttering when hitting full throttle around 4000rpm. When I brought the bike in for service, it turned out that one of the ignition coils (bobine?) was broken. That resulted in malfuctioning of the second spark plug and subsequent incomplete combustion. You may want to check that out.

About the 5 gears - I believe that all rocksters have 6 gears... Mine does about 4000rpm at slightly less than 120km/hr in 6th, or 3000rpm at around 90km/hr in 6th. Are you sure you counted correctly?

All Rocks have 6 gears....and I have never heard of a low MPH lockout. Mine will run in 6th at any speed you want (though i dont know why you would want to).

I had the same experience as Waas. First 7500 miles I was only getting around 38 to 40 mpg.

Now at 14,000 I get about 48 and can do just about 200 miles per tank.

Be patient.

I've been semi-flogging mine and still manage at least 35mpg, all the way up to around 40mpg (give or take a couple of miles) when I ride more conservatively. Maybe those are the 5 up gears... don't forget to shift all the way down to 1st while stopped!

(oh yeah... I took a 200+ mile ride today through the Napa and Capay Valleys here in Northern California, and managed to get about 44mpg)

Shifting is stiff when new, and will take quite awhile before it gets broken in. Perhaps (Lion_Lady) could not force it into 6th (I've had to put some extra oomph occasionally myself)? I figure it'll be easier once I get mine broken in, and hoping some new boots I ordered will keep my shifting toe from getting sore from the extra effort.

Wait a minute... am I the only one who rarely counts his gears when shifting??

gringo_069.....I waited for someone else to say it, but it didn't happen, so here it is:

SHIFT INTO 6TH GEAR!!!!

If you have 5 gears in your box you must also have a R1100 motor......or a bike that is worth millions.....I would check it out.....

Nope. Toe up if revs too high, toe down if revs too low, anything else is academic.
