I saw this at my dealer today.

Post by DJ Downunder »

When I first bought my R1150R about five years ago..the only BMW topbox for it was a small soft one..

Today I saw one that was bigger..and hard..

Here's some pics....is this old news?...I hadn't seen it before.

That looked like a Givi box. Was it labelled BMW?

Doesnt look like a Givi mounting. Not a Hepco either. I've never seen a BMW mount, might be from the factory

Looks like the BMW F650 top case which will fit the R1150R, but IMHO is small and overpriced. (I paid just under $450 for one)

I've seen the less expensive and much larger Givi top case adapted to fit the R1150R.
I'm outta' here!

The mounting bracket (with the lock) is the BMW factory unit for the K1200RS (and also marketed for the R1150R). It normally attaches the black softcase but can be fitted to to other BMW, Givi, Pelican, etc topcases as ebiker (and many of us) has done.

It is the topbox BMW sells for the F series bikes. Much more money than a Givi with less space.

Yes it's genuine BMW..I think you guys are right about it coming off an F series BMW..I thought it was a good size..and not too big like the ST topbox..that's huge.

Dave..you're right about the weight thing..it was a little on the wobbly side even empty..you could put your wifes hat in it if you wanted to ride to the horse races.

My 40 liter Hepco Becker topcase and rack was just under $300. Best thing I've ever done to a bike!

Givi, BMW, Hepco, Touratech...

They all do the same, they all ruin the looks of a pretty bike :?

What you doing at the dealer, DJ? Visiting hours for your bike?

Any estimate of when you are back on the road? Some of us need a DJ road trip fix!

It shouldn't be long now..the tank is off..bits are off all over the place..so it's all happening..it's now at the stage that it should have been at 5 weeks ago..

My guess is less than two weeks...Waaaa-Hooo!

btw..Did I tell you about the loaner for my ride down to Phillip Island tomorrow..I'm trying to get to sleep right now with a big grin on my face.. :D

hehehe - bet you liked that. :D:D

Yup - that's the 650GS topbox on the K1200RS/R1150R rack mount. I've thought about doing the same thing. But the Top Box we had on our F650GS (ie the same as that one) wasn't at all waterresistant and that's a BIG problem for me.

If they manage to track you down (let alone catch you!) on the K bike just tell them, "No worries, I left you a loaner".
