It irratates me that after I have prepaid for gas and I am then in the process of filling my tank, the gas pump starts to slow down forty or fifty cents prior to my cutoff amount. What's that all about anyway?
Why don't they program the pumps so that they slow down within ten cents of the cutoff?
And what *is* "prepay" anyway? Does that mean that you're supposed to pay *before* you pay? There's an overuse of "pre" in the United States and it must be stopped.

Hey, DJ:
Again, sorry about your accident.
Yea, here in the states, we have photo decals of State Police officers on the pumps holding up actual driver's licenses that they've confiscated because people have done drive-offs. And there will be some threatening phrase like "you steal gas, you lose your license. NO EXCEPTIONS.
It seems that there's very little honor code in the world today.
Business owners have to assume that you're going to steal from them.
Newspaper racks are the only area that I can think of where the honor code is still respected.
I guess that most thiefs aren't stealing newspapers to read and haven't figured out a way to make enough money off of them, so for now newspapers are safe.
...although the internet is stealing newspaper readers so maybe not....

Exxon reports $30 Billion in profit in the last quater !
I wonder who is the bigger thief ?
Oil companies have enough power to create price movement. Not only they hike the price on a speculative basis, i.e. nothing to do the amount of oil produced in the world, but they also raise the price much faster then they reduced it when the price of oil comes down. Plus their profits are set as a percent of the price instead of a fixed cost.
I guess the money they spend buying out politicians is well worth it!

In India, "prepone" is used as a the opposite of "postpone".Harry wrote:And what *is* "prepay" anyway? Does that mean that you're supposed to pay *before* you pay? There's an overuse of "pre" in the United States and it must be stopped.
