I have a wunderlich aero screen which is great - not too big but just enough to stop buffeting at motorway (freeway) speeds.
I'm 6'4" and I find my R to be very comfortable, I have the sport BMW screen which brings the wind at chin level and becomes somewhat uncomfortable for speeds over 140 km but since I rarely do over 120 km I don't mind !

I don’t think there is any magical formula that determines what makes the R comfortable for you. I’m 6’1†and had the foot-peg lowering kit installed by the dealer before I took delivery. After a couple of hours, my legs would become very cramped and uncomfortable. I can’t imagine what it would have been like with the pegs in the stock location. I recently added a BMW tall seat, and the extra height has helped a great deal with my leg comfort. Unfortunately, the BMW seat gets pretty uncomfortable for me after an hour or two, so I have a Sargent on the way. We are all made differently, and have different tolerance for postural stress. Personally, I think the R is worth the customization effort, although the trial and error nature of the changes can be expensive. The GS is a fine bike from what I have heard, and seems more accommodating in terms of ergonomics. But to me, it lacks the aesthetic appeal of the R.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I agree that this whole ergonomics business is a very individual thing, but here is my stuff....
I am 6'3', 210 lbs., and 56 years old...I have put most of my 47k miles on the bike by touring, and the only things you must have to tour comfortably, IMHO, is a windshield of some sort, the Throttlmeister, and bags.
I used to get a bit saddle sore after 4 hours or so, when I had the original "tall" seat, and 8-10 hours (including stops) was my normal long day, though I did some 12's on occasion. I now have a Rich Mayer saddle, and this summer I did 2000 miles in 4 back to back days, and though I get a bit stiff in my limbs, I really don't get that burning sensation in my butt anymore.
For older guys like me, I used to have some knee pain problems when riding, but my doctor had me start taking calcium pills (1 gram per day) and they have completely gone away...
I have always thought moving things like handlebars and footpegs such small amounts on this bike would not benefit someone as tall as me .

"none.nada.thank you."
I bought my rockster used, and the guy before was an older gentleman that had the footpegs lowered. I tried it with them for a while, then took them out to get increased cornering clearance, and ended up putting them RIGHT back on and slowing up just a bit.
To me, my feet would actually go numb with the pegs at the stock location, but are perfectly fine with the peg lowering kit installed. They seem to stop much of the vibration felt while cruising at about 90ish.
Oh yes, I am 6'4".
The touring windshield for me just creates a lot of turbulent air right at the helmet, is incredibly noisy and is just not tall enough, though it does keep my jacket slightly more bug-free.

Perfect ergos
I went NY-LA in a few 500-800 mile days. I'm 6'2" and had no ergo problems at all. GET A NEW SEAT, especially if you have a big butt. I could use a wider, maybe a little more bowl-shaped seat. It 'taint' very comfortable after 3 hours/day.
You'll like the ergos. I think it's a very natural upright seated position.

I am 74.25" (that's what the electronic thing at the supermarket said).
I use the tall seat with a sheepskin butt pad on top. The sheepsking makes a big difference for me. The slight increase in seat height, plus the comfort, make long trips enjoyable.
I also use a touring screen, which is just OK.

I'm 6'3", with an inseam of about 33", and long arms (37" sleeve length).
The original (low) seat I got with the bike was tolerable, but I cuold only go an hour or so on it. The bought a Sargent, and that made it much better. The reach to the bars are about perfect for me, as I can reach sitting up completely straight if I want. One tip is you can rest your lengs on the cylinders (watch out for the exhausts!) for a little bit, or even hop back on to the back seat. That's only recommended for short periods in safe conditions though, and the front end gets really light when I do it.
Also, remember the soles of your boots effectively lengthen you legs, so find a pair with thin soles.
If I were doing a ton of touring though, I'd defaintely be looking at lowering the pegs, or finding a bigger bike.

Tall People make me sick.
It took me 6 months to get comfy bouncing from one side to another at stop lights.
I bought my rock from my much taller father in law and he had a peg lowering kit installed. I rode with it for a while but I decided that a rockster needs to have the pegs up high. I still have the kit if anyone wants it. Just make me an offer. I also have the rockster handle bars which are supposed to be shorter.

Dang, we have a lot of tall people on this board! I am 5'9" (shrinking every day!
) and my knees hurt. But that is because there is bone on bone in there! I intend to get a taller seat to ease my pain!
Edited to add: the taller seat should reduce my 'figeting' MikeC!

too tall for comfort
I am 6ft. I had knee problems after about two hours on the stock Roadster seat. I bought an Airhawk that I would use for touring only. This would raise me about an inch. That worked pretty good but my knees still had problems after about four hours. The tall seat is not comfortable for me so that never really worked well. I tried a friend's Corbin but did not like it. If I still rode the bike I think I would go for a Russell. A local rider has one and it looks like it would do the trick for both height and comfort. I ended up moving to a GS for leg comfort. That turned out to be too top heavy for me, but the leg room was great!
