Roadster headlight conversion

Post by Osiris »

I recently bought a pristine '02 R1150R and couldnt be more excited about it!! My first bike!! WOO-HOO!!
But, like all of the autos that I've had I feel the need to personalize my bike. So, I'm wanting to change the headlight. I know that the GS light housing fits (Rockster), but I'm looking for something a little different. The K1200R housing looks pretty trick. My main question is...Will it fit without serious modifications? Are most of the BMW headlight housings universally fit?

p.s._please don't hate me for wanting to be different.

Thanks in advance!!

first of all, CONGRATS on the new bike. you should have a lot of fun. i sure like mine.

I have no idea about swapping head lights. but if I were to guess i would say most BMW units are not easily interchanged. i have seen aftermarket stuff though. give that a look.

really you should see little of your headlight if you are in the seat!
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

If you intend to ride much at night stay with the round headlight. The Rock/GS fit gives an odd pattern which is poor on high beam.

I'm also thinking of changing the headlight-unit for that of the K1200R/R1200GS, since want a little windscreen, and the most beautifull I've seen so far is the one of the K1200R.
I'm not sure if there's a large difference in width, but mounting-method seems the same.
Only thing I'm not sure about is if it's possible to use the new (single-wire) unit in the old wiring-system.

Completely agree. I love the K1200R headlight. If there was a reasonable way to attach it and decent price to buy it, it might tie me over until I figure out how to add that beast to my stable.

I wonder how much would that replacement part cost us though.......

Thanks everybody for your input!

Just to put another bug in your ear...the MV Agusta Brutale headlight would look absolutely sick on the R....

Oh great Osiris! Now you've done it - got me back on the headlight kick. I still like the speed triple style though.
Keep us posted.
