Has anyone painted their flyscreen?

I took my flyscreen to a paint shop and they said that they couldn't get anything to stick to the flyscreen. Has anyone else had any success painting their flyscreen?

A few guys here have painted their fly screens...I've seen some black ones and recently a silver one...most paint the back only...it can be done.

The dude I sold my fly screen to a couple of years back painted it red.
All he did was wet sand it with 440 grit paper, primed and painted it. He kept on for over a year with no issues that I was aware of.

One would think that it would be best not to allow the shield to flex after it's been painted

I painted the "Sportshield" on my K75S several years ago. I used a Brillo Pad to scuff the backside then sprayed it with a BMW spray can to match the bike. When that was dry, I followed up by spraying over the red with flat black to reduce any glare. By spraying the backside of the shield, you keep the paint from getting blasted by road debris. Mine looked good until I traded the bike several years later.

Several folks have painted their screens. Vann Waters did his and DJ. Maybe the people who you asked to paint it, didn't want to risk having it brought back in case paint didn't adhere well to the plexi. Sounds like the scuffing/sanding routine is the key.

stratus - I painted the inside (back) with a flat black Krylon spray paint, with no prep other than a good cleaning.

I liked the results. Looks like this:

Hint: the first time I taped the front and edges before painting and did not like the "prism" effect of the unpainted edges. Redid it and painted the edges also to kill the light coming though the edge.

Hi Phil! Our daughter is doing fine (nearly two years old) and we have kid #2 arriving in May (hopefully on schedule this time). I had an offer for a trip to Mexico at the end of April, but given my experience when the last kid showed up, I think I will stay close to home.

I just put my bike back on the road yesterday. The winter here on Vancouver Island is pretty mild. It's the incessant rain (about 30 days straight in the last run) that makes you put the bike away for the rainy months.

It looks like you are still getting lots of riding in. How many miles on your bike now?

Vann's paint job looks pretty good. I think that's what I'd do too. I really like that black shield look with the black bike. If I ever get enough debt paid off I'm gonna get the rims painted black on mine as well. This bike looks so good with black wheels, it should have come stock that way.

I have 47,000 on mine so far, and have slacked off some this winter with the new house and getting sick every other week.

I'll probably have to get a gel battery this year sometime. Other than that-knock on wood-the only thing worn out is tires...Oh! I DID have to replace the oil pressure switch a couple months ago.

Thanks for all the advice - I took Vann's idea and have painted my screen with Krylon. If it turns out, I'll post a photo. Otherwise, I'll try again.

Hey redr1150r - I meant to comment on your paint job also. Nice custom touch. If anything happens to my bike that requires repainting (I'll not specify what, for fear of jinxing myself!) I want to turn mine into a modern version of a '76 or so silver smoke R90S!
