Oil... :(

Post by Bry »

Well, it happened today, took the wife on her newly purchased s/h majesty 250 on a scooter run, my daughter came on the back of the ST *7yo and when we got to the meeting point she transferred to my wifes scoot.

They headed off down the road, I took a few photo's as they left, Jasmine *daughter, waved and off they went with the group. I put the camera away and headed off after them, imagine my surpise three kays down the road when I see all the scoots stopped at the lights.. odd I thought... wonder what happened?

Then I see my wife on the side of the road and my daughter standing in shock.. man... man... every worst thing runs through your head... But they were thankfully fine! The guys on the scoots were great, Wife hurt her legs but kept going but the best was the little one, she had a brief ride in a ute, then wanted back on Dad's bike, then really surprised me when she swapped back with mum later! Makes me proud...

The bike? scraped panels... apparently one of the not-so-big scooters hit the picks hard when the lights went yellow, Wife was in the center and braked hard and there was oil.. Luckily they were only doing 20/30 klicks...

Couple of piccies!

Yeah, she braked lost front and then went down on the right, Jasmine had helmet and jacket on, I don't have gloves that fitted her, my bad, looking into that, and yes your right, luck was indeed on my side.. this time.

Shocked the hell out of Jacky, wasn't prepared for the speed of it...

Hell of a way to learn, she's ridden with me a fair bit but not much with groups of riders. I tend to forewarn or make distance when I can, with a new group you've got to ride a lot more defensively, as she's aware.. now.

Pretty neat. Glad nobody got hurt except scooter. How far do they
go on their rides? Looks like fun. Your daughter is a real trooper.
Good on her.

They went about 70K's to a park, kicked back put on lunch, fun to watch, kinda just sit at the back on the BM and plod along.. They had about 80 or so on this ride, some maxi's (majesty/burgman/t-max) but mostly the chinese/korean spec scoots which are becoming immensely popular over here.
The funny thing is scooter gys asking me how economical the BMW is!

But on the way home, you find an empty road hold the throttle open and remember why bikes are more fun!

Sorry to hear of your loved ones' fall. Judging by the pics, the fall wasn't too hard given the damage shown on the scoot. This incident reminds me of the toll booths I go through on the I-95 corridor. You really have to be careful when coming to a stop as the center of the toll lanes are very slick due to all the oil from cars and trucks that aren't in good shape.

Glad your wife and daughter are fine and that they weren't shaken up too hard to not ride.
