I am sorry, but I have to rant.............I HATE VERIZON WIRELESS SO FREAKING MUCH I...I.....ARGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
My bills have gone up over double since I simply increased my calling plan. I know my usage hasn't gone up that much, but my dropped calls have been ridiculous. And since they don't pay for dropped incoming calls, I get screwed LEFT AND RIGHT because MOST OF MY DAMN CALLS ARE INCOMING!!
!@%$#%%#%&$#
ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I can guarantee you that T-Mobile is worse for quality. I got so pissed a week ago after the 7th attempt to have a conversation with one of my employees that on the 7th dropped call, I threw the cell phone down breaking the display. After a stream of cuss words, I calmed down, went home, and used a land line.

I signed up for an "unlimited" rate plan 5 years ago, before Verizon bought out my carrier. The contract has automatically renewed annually, and I still pay $49 a month. I burn through over 3,500 minutes in a month during my busy season.
wow, $49 a month for unlimited??? my wife had AT&T and they got bought out by Cingular so her $99 unlimited plan is renewable....but her service sucks big time.
Verizon is probably the best 'round here, but as a company, they are the pits.

I was with Bell Mobility. Until they changed their invoicing system in 1Q 2004. And got it wrong. It took them over 9 months to restore billing to normal. I would get invoices one month for hundreds of dollars even when I had not used the phone. And I was on automatic credit card billing but invoices still showed outstanding balances. How could that be? But the worse part it took them 9 months to fix the frikkin' problem. And once they did, they determined that I owed them $23 which they failed to charge to my credit card - and after only 1 month, they sic'd a collection agency on me. When I finally said enough is enough and decided to cancel my service, they seemed genuinely surprised that I would leave!
I hate all cell phone companies. But I consider a cell phone to be almost a must have these days. So pick the one you hate least...

It does seem that most of the new cellular technology is going into making the phones do more - PDA, I-Pod, camera, etc. It does not appear that much is going to improve the signal strength or quality. New towers are being added - slowly it seems, but the quality of the signal is still crap.
I think satellite phones may be the ultimate answer once the cost comes down. Having a phone work when there is no power seems like a good idea to me. Perhaps FEMA and others responsible for doing emergency rescue work should also think along those lines.
To tell you the truth, I've never used a satellite phone. All I've seen was the price of the unit and the cost per minute. That placed it far from my reach.
Now that you mention it, that is quite a distance for the signal to travel.
I use a Vodafone 3G model. I guess I am lucky here in Japan. I can even get a signal in many subway tunnels and the B1 and B2 level of most large buildings. If I stay in Japan, my service is relatively cheap at about $80 per month. The problem is that when I travel, it costs as much as $3.00 per minute. My typical bill is $700 per month. (Fortunately for me, I can expense the entire thing!)
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.
