Fuel Info replaced by Trip/Odometer Readings!

[-o< 2007 R1200R: Problem: Fuel info vs trip/odometer readings: changed out the battery and began reseting the clock. Easy enough until you do stupid random acts. Thought by pushing the top and bottom button to set time, of course was incorrect. What I ended up with is the buttons to rotate through the trip/odometer was replaced by the fuel info material. The button on the left handlebar for the fuel info was/is now rotating throught the trip/odometer readings. Disconnected the battery but it did not reset the computer to original settings...so, still got the trip/odometer readings on the info button and the fuel info on the buttons on the face of the clock.

Anybody know how to get things back to normal? Thanks.

If removing the power doesn't reset it, you might try holding the two buttons in again, in the hope you can somehow repeat the sequence that got them reversed. If that doesn't work, schedule a dealer reset. But what they'd charge is probably even more aggravating.

I don't have anything to suggest beyond what Bill offered. But I'm interested in how this turns out. Please let us know if you're able to re(mis)program the buttons, or what result you obtain if the bike is offered to a dealer for repair.

The instrument cluster has some undocumented features as you have found. You found the stopwatch/lap timer feature. As I recall, holding the buttons down should return you to the right mode.

It is detailed in the F800GS manual (same cluster). I don't know why they left it of the R12 manual.

http://www.motorpdf.com/bmw/bmw-f800st-owners-manuals/

Stopwatch
As an alternative to the odometer, the stopwatch 1 can be displayed. The display consists of hours, minutes, seconds and tenths of a second separated by dots. In enable improved operation of the stopwatch while driving (as a lap timer), the functions of the button 2 and the functions of the INFO button on the handlebar can be interchanged. The stopwatch and the odometer are then operated with the INFO button;

the onboard computer must be operated with the button 2. The stopwatch continues to run in the background when the display is temporarily switched over to the odometer. The stopwatch also continues to run when the ignition is temporarily switched off.

Operating stopwatch If necessary, switch over from odometer to stopwatch with button 1.
With stopwatch stopped, press button 2 to start stopwatch.
With stopwatch running, press button 2 to stop stopwatch.
Press and hold button 2 to reset stopwatch.
Stopwatch shows
0.00.00.0

Interchanging button functions
Press and hold button 1 and button 2 simultaneously until display changes.
FLASH (engine speed warning indicator) and ON or OFF are shown.
Press button 2.
LAP (Lap-Timer) and ON or OFF are shown.
Press button 1 repeatedly until desired state is shown.
ON: Operation of stopwatch with INFO button on handlebar fitting.
OFF: operation of stopwatch with button 2 in instrument cluster.
To save the setting made, press and hold button 1 and button 2 simultaneously until the display changes.

VERY cool Scott..

Can't imagine why I'd want to do this, but good to know I can do it (or undo it if done by accident..)

Thanks much!

I read it a few times. I see why its not in the owners manual, I still can't commit it to memory.

Thank you, a good discovery about my own bike.

Thank you.

David

This came up either here or the MOA board a couple years ago. Someone had discovered the lap timer by accident. Of course I had to try it had the same problem. Fortunately someone else knew about the F800 manual and saved the day.

Happy to help.

I acknowledge the functionality - 'tho I've never used nor expect to use it - but golly gee: the manual is just terrible writing. I know BMW isn't usually ashamed about anything, but they ought to be ashamed of that.

:D Well, finally took the time to try out "tinybrains" instructions and it WORKED!! Within a couple of minutes, after a few trys in the cold, got the trip/odomter readings back to where they belong and the fuel info back to the button control on the left handlebar. I knew there would be someone in the beemer community who would know how to fix the problem w/o going to the dealer and losing time and $$. Thank You All for your suggestions.

A little off subject here -- but it's winter time.
That picture of the two story barracks building looks horribly familiar.

Are those all N scale trains. If they are the detail is fantastic, if fact if they are HO they are fantastic. Great layout, gets me to thinking about breaking out my old N gage stuff and doing something with it. It would keep me off the keyboard in the winter time.191387484
