Looking at an '07 R1200R...need help!

Above is a link to the bike I'm looking at, I've been talking to the guys at the dealership and am thinking about putting a deposit down ASAP, but I just have one question....does this bike look like it's been lowered to anyone else?? I have a 2003 R1150R right now, and it seems like it's much higher than this bike. Also, every other R1200R I've looked at looks like it sits much higher. Maybe it's just weird camera angles, the gentleman at the dealership says he "doesn't think" it's been lowered, but he wasn't sure. I just don't want to fly half way across the country to get there and find out it's not stock.

Also, I know final drives and splines and wiring harnesses were a weak spot in some of the R1150R's, anything I should keep an eye open for?

I would ask the dealership to measure the seat height with the bike on its center stand (if it has one). Standard seat height is about 31.5 inches.

Judging by the angles of the telelever arm, paralever arm and the distance from the top of the fork bodys to the triple tree, I would have to say it has the short shocks on it. Perhaps some one on our forum has before and after pics of a R1200R lowered .

So it's probably not super difficult, but just more money spent.... I'm having the guy measure the seat height right now, we'll see what he says. But it definitely looks like it's been lowered, and if that's the case I probably won't bother with it.

Well he should probably get it then! I'm not really a fan of the pinstripes, definitely don't need a lowered bike (although I'm still waiting to hear back from the dealership on the seat height), but I did really love the price of that bike! I'm thinking I may just hold out until I can find a white one....my R1150R is black, would seem kind of boring to get the newer model in the same color, need to change it up a little more than that.

But, I can't wait to switch over to the R1200R side.

You get a better view of the clutch-side cylinder in the walk-around video. (See the video tab on the site.) I would guess the cylinder has something to do with the rear suspension. The bike also appears to have ABS.

That is an amazing price on such a low-mileage R12R. Almost too good a price.

I'm guessing it's a remote adjuster for the rear shock.

I guess I have comment on the price. I don't think it's amazing at all given that the bike is 5 years old. It's fair, but not worth flying across the country for. And not a deal if you're gonna have to put normal height shocks on it. The seat does look to be the low version in the pic. My thought is that you shouldn't have any difficulty finding a good example closer to home.

Yeah, you're right, I'm just being impatient. I'm riding out to Colorado Sept 7th and was really wanting to have a new bike by then. Once I got approval from the credit union, and more importantly approval from the wife, I just got all antsy and had to get a new bike as fast as possible! Finding a white R1200R for under $10,000 is pretty much impossible though, does anyone know if that color was even an option on the older (2007 & 2008) models??

I'm not an expert but if you put a bike on a center stand i think the only thing you are measuring is the seat itself not the suspension.

Went out and measured my black with white pin striped stead...bottom of the top tripel tree to the top of the fork seal is 7 5/16 "...that puts the seal height below the pin stripes...also the bottom of the header pipe, at the joint going into the cat. collector...2 into one... is a close 10 5/16" [bike on center stand] for what it's worth I didn't see the ABS ring on the not shown left side...I' m wondering if this bike was one of the closeout specials that didn't have the ABS option so the Touring package [bags and something else] was added at a good savings to entice a buyer. To me the seat looks like a low comfort seat...my conclusion is the bike has been lowered or it is a lowered chassis from the factory...I've never seen one of those animals...Get the vin no. and have a dealer run it to see what that can tell you...Deilenberger is a good source of info on a lowered R1200R, email him and I'm sure he will fill you in on the particulars on how he lowered his...Good luck

No, 2009+ models only.

Have them measure the bottom of the rear tire to the ground with the bike on the centerstand.

If it's more then about 1.5" - it's got lowered suspension. That isn't undesireable if they are decent shocks.. I'd happily trade an almost new set of stock length shocks (and pay the shipping) for a set of quality short shocks as spares.. They appear to be Wilbers - they probably cost about $1500+ new (depend son the options on them.) The front suspension does look as if it's lowered when I look at the fork tubes with it on the sidestand.

Black with white stripes is really the classic BMW boxer look, and lots of people DO want that color scheme, so it doesn't detract from the price of the bike. I'm sure you could also find someone willing to do a swap for the low seat for a stock seat (the low seat is really good for normal tallness riders.)

Didn't notice the miles, but - the dealer is claiming it has ABS and DSC. I'd saw the ABS tone ring in the walk-around, but since he didn't show the left grip control, can't see if it has DSC.

I wouldn't mind buying it as a spare.. but I need one in California (mebbe Joe Finn can take "care" of it for me.. ) That's a great price for a low mileage example. I don't think it will last long.
