Refitting seat?

Anyone have any tips on how to refit the seat after removal? I am on my second R1200R and can never get the seat on without a fiddle. There must be a knack but I have not found it yet!

Then of course you cannot find the ignition key because you left it 'hidden' under the tail light...But better than leaving it under the seat.

Fitting the seat was fiddly for me as well, took some practice to develop tactile memory that now makes it pretty easy.

I hold the seat with my left hand centered at the top of the front lip, and right hand centered at the rear. I lower the front of the seat down lightly, with the front lip just aft of the tank in what I think is the correct position. When the front bottoms, I wiggle the seat a bit to make sure that it's correctly seated ( <- pun! ) in place, and look to see that it looks correct. If it feels and looks right, then I press down gently with my right hand. If the front is in the right place, then the latch engages easily and I'm good to go. If the front is wrong, it won't latch, easily or at all.

You need to mate the front of the seat with the 2 prongs on eiter side of the tank. I tend to present the seat to the frame in a downwards and forward motion till it's snug. Then push down on pillion seat to latch. I've also found the rubber lugs under the seat can be screwed in or out to improve the way the seat sits on its pressure points.

LOOK down into the gap between the gas tank and the front lip of the seat as you place it on the bike.

You can see the two round steel rails that you place the lips of the seat pan on before sliding the seat forward a bit.

Slide the seat forward a bit and the rear of the seat will drop and latch into place.
