Hi All,
I had a Metzeler Z6 fitted to the rear of my R1100R last year. I'm a bit disappointed as it hasn't lasted very long at all (8k km, if that...). The front Z6 tyre is still in good condition.
Is it possible to mix brands of tyre, front and rear?
And, if so, any better tyres out there than the Z6?
Thanks,
Awfers
Z6 worn out at rear - mix tyres?

Don't mix tires. Get another Z6 or put on a new pair of matched tires. I only got about 8k on Metzlers on my 1150. Only 6k on the Bridgestone Battleaxe 021 on my 1200. Replaced with 023's which are supposed to get better mileage. All in all though about 8k is all I get with my style of riding. I hear some commuters get 10k + but it seems they are just riding the slabs back & forth.
Evil beware, we have waffles.

Re: Z6 worn out at rear - mix tyres?
some good advice under "best tyre for 1997 1100r" thread back in april-may. Regarding mixing brands, as each tyre does a different job anyway ( front & rear ) unlike car tyres (that should not be mixed across axles) perhaps you can mix brands. I am no expert, but it would be good to find a definitive answer as we all have varying wear rates front & rear.

Should have posted this a couple weeks ago; I had a set of Z6s and my front wore out before my rear, we could have swapped! I got a set of PR3's but have yet to have them long enough to really form an opinion.

The MPR3 is brilliant . I had mine one for 4000 miles and it looks like I will get around 12000 miles on these. Mixing tyres is in some countries not even allowed. I mix them sometimes but only because I don't usually renew two tyres at the same time.
De Bridgestone bt21 at the rear in combination with the Mpr3 on the front worked well. But the Michelin was a lot better in the rain.
