magnetic tank bag

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I am tired of my Eclipse three point strap tank bag. It is bigger than I need and even with the Wunderlich horn guard I jumped pretty good in parking lots a couple times because the bag slid over and got around the guard.

XProf seems to like his Wolfman pretty well. I may look at Aerostich, RKA and Touratech more closely too.

My main requirement is a clear map holder and something magnetic. Not too tall, and just big enough for some gloves and personal electronics and misc. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The tank ring mount works very well and is totally secure from falling over.

Take a look at cortech... I had the super mini left over from a previous bike and it works OK on the R12... the tank shape isn't ideal for magnetic bags, but the mini is small enough where the magnets sit in the grooves of the tank. I would find a shop and do some fit tests...

I also have the the sport tail bag which is a really great fit on the R12 pillion seat... my Nemo tent fits inside with room to spare, plus it's expandable.

The Cortech tailpack fits nicely with the Corbin seat.


The Cortech Super Mini (magnetic) on my 125cc MotoGiro bike. Serves the purpose for all that stuff that doesn't fit in your pockets. Map case is naturally small but magnets are strong and bag doesn't move.


I was using an RKA magnetic on my R1200R, that served me well, but recently moved (up ?) to a BMW bag specific to the R1200R. Haven't taken a trip with the new bag so the jury is still out on it

One thing about magnetic tank bags.....the magnets pick up grit which will then scratch your paint.

The seemingly soft paint used by BMW is susceptible to anything that will cause abrasion. I usually throw a bandana on the tank before I put the tank bag on and always wipe the under part of the bag off before putting it on.
The only sure way to prevent the paint from getting some scuffs is to leave the bike covered in the garage. IMHO

No doubt this is generally true. I use one on my RR and have not noticed any paint issues, but I have a matte finish. I would be very concerned about it's scratching a shiny black tank.
