Does anyone know what the manufacturer recommended 12,000 mile service list includes? 2009 R12R, ABS, ESA.

That sounds pretty steep for a 12K service. It is just a 6K with an air filter and final drive change, and my 6K was $216.bmwk100 wrote:Just had mine done last week to the tune of $600.
They did the coolant, brake fluids, valve check etc. 4 hours labor + parts. I thought that was a little steep. Maybe other can chime in to see what they paid at their dealer. (I don't want to hear from do it yourself'ers, because that's not how I choose to spend my time.) My 6K was about the same as yours.tinytrains wrote:That sounds pretty steep for a 12K service. I was mistaken- 4 hours service- synthetic oil, brake fluid, spark plugs, air filter, mineral oil.-gibbo111 wrote:Coolant??? its only engine oil
The dealer got me for spark plugs at 12k too, but I protested that they changed them without my authorization and BMW spec says to renew them @ 24k, They refunded the cost witch was nearly $100. I just crossed the 36k mark myself and did the bulk of the work on my own(engine oil w/filter, trans lube, final drive lube, air filter and alternator belt) I had the dealer adjust the valves , sync the throttle bodies and flush the rear brake juice(they did the front brake line recall too), the bill from the dealer was $100. The odds of a modern day spark plug being worn out at 12k is next to nil.bmwk100 wrote:I was mistaken- 4 hours service- synthetic oil, brake fluid, spark plugs, air filter, mineral oil.-
What was the mineral oil for? The clutch fluid is not on any list to be changed - ever. And since it isn't hydgroscopic, it should never need changing unless you have a leak. And plugs aren't due at 12k, and I don't believe the air filter is, but I could be wrong on that. Brake fluid is every 2 years from the DATE the bike was MANUFACTURERED. The should have included rear drive oil.. that's a 12k service item now. IMHO - unnecessary, but I do mine anyway. The first time I did it was at 36,000 miles when they came out with the new recommendation. The oil that came out looked identical (clarity, lack of goobers) to the oil I put in. Ditto when I did it again at 48,000 miles. I think I may wait to 72,000 to do it again.bmwk100 wrote:I was mistaken- 4 hours service- synthetic oil, brake fluid, spark plugs, air filter, mineral oil.-gibbo111 wrote:Coolant??? its only engine oil
