how to jack up r1200r

hi all
anyone on the forum jack up the bike from under the sump ??
don't fancy the jack going through the sump .
i have one of the flat type jack jacks platform 30cm across
15 cm wide , thought of putting a block of wood on top and taking weight of
wheels .done this before with a harley under the frame .

I use a hydraulic floor jack under the sump to hold the front end up when changing the front tire.. but I wouldn't use it to lift the entire bike up. Trying to balance 500lbs of bike on a 4" diameter hocky-puck would make life way too exciting for me.

If I need to get the bike up in the air to work on it - I roll it on to my Handy lift, tie it down, and let electricity do the work of lifting it. The Handy lift is the same one the shops all use, and if you keep your eyes open you can sometimes get a good deal on a used one (mine was basically new - used in the showroom of a dealer who went out of business, I paid about 1/3rd the cost of new for it.) It makes a handy heavy-duty workbench when the bike isn't on it.

Harbor Freight also has a roll-on lift that often goes on sale for less then $300. Good alternative considering what the hospital bills would be if the bike fell over on you while working on it.

I'll second Don's lift table recommendation, they're worth every penny that they cost. I spent a bunch of years rolling around on cold concrete working on bikes and when I first got my lift I wondered why the heck I waited so long to get one. They do take up a lot of space in the garage but I just park a bike on it to conserve space.

If you don't want to spring for a lift for what ever reason I would suggest taking a look at Pit Bull stands http://www.pit-bull.com/ they are high quality stuff and work quite well. I have some of these as well and for quick work like oiling chains or popping a wheel off they are a treat.
