tyre pressures for Pilot Road 3

I have just put a new set of Pilot Road 3's on my bike.
When the guys put the tyres on, they were blown up to 2.5 front and 2.9 rear.

The hand book doesn't say this is correct, but does the different brand affect the pressure? ie do I need different pressure according to which brand of tyre I'm running?

My dealer over inflates my tires, too — 2.5 front/2.9 rear is the recommended spec if you're two-up with luggage.
