2011 R1200R left side 'system case'.."heat shield"

Post by ammolab »

Does the left BMW case have a heat shield? Is it on the
bottom of the case where you can see it? or inside the
case structure?

The owners maual for the 2011 shows a heat shield mounted on the outside - it also states that although the panniers from the older R-R's are compatable they recommend that you install the heat shield on them

I thought so...I noticed the "right" case is the same part # for the old Rs and Sts....but the 2011 left case has a different part #.

My set of cases that my dealer ordered has the OLD part number and no heat shield.... but my dealer is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

My 2009 does not have a heat shield and things in the left bag do get warm. Don't leave a chocolate bar on the bottom of the bag.

When you talk about the "older R-R's" are you talking about R1150R's? Or pre-'11 R1200R's? If you mean R1150R's does that mean the bags from an R1150R would fit on an R1200R?

Thats a "feature". It is used to heat the cappuccino while you ride.

Here is another shot... it's just off the plastic a bit enough to 'hopefully' move heat away to keep my candy bars safe!
