Top Box

Post by makia »

Does anyone have recomendations for a top box for my R1150R I was thinking of a Givi or Hepco and Becker Top Box. Givi is a bit pricey in Australia but they seem good and have a good mounting system I think. I want to use it with my BMW panniers to do some camping. Also looking for tank bag as well.

Re the top box

I have a Hepco Becker, 42l, and it's been good and served well. When I do it again though I am going to mount a pelican case. Somebody, Bike Bandit? Motorcycle Superstore? Makes an attaching device that allows locking and removal of the pelican case and I would have a couple of different sizes, with the same mount, for different jobs.

Re the tank bag
I have this one

and it's simply great. Well made, smart attachment. secure. impossible to make the tank. If I were to replace it I would go with maybe the same bag or maybe another style from this company, but agai=ain, this one is terrific and cannot rec it highly enough

I have a tank bag similar to Dr. Strangelove's. They are great -- the quick removal system works well and the bag is well made.

I don't use a top box much, so I just have a cheap J.C. Whitney one. I don't know if something similar is available where you are.

and

and TwistedThrottle makes an adapter for pelican cases.

Would love to see a pictorial in this. The Hepco Becker rack is industrial in strength and should be able to be adapted, I'd think, but I want it lockable and easily removable--there's the rub. Thanks Airman, for the link.

Hi,

I have a 02 R with the factory grab handles/pannier racks. I installed a H&B rear rack and use a 52L Journey top box. I used it on a XCountry too. I'm very happy with the box, tough as nails, locks easily in place, waterproof and big. I can fit a large full face helmet and folded leather jacket and a full set of rain gear.

The rear rack bolts onto the OEM pannier racks with 4 HT steel bolts. I replaced the oned they sent me with black ones to fit in with the black racks.

I bought mine from a crowd in Perth and was VERY happy with their service.

Cheers,

Pete
