Givi V35 panniers fit 2011 R1200R?

Just a quick question for the experts here.

I am thinking of purchasing a 2011 R1200R and would like to know if anyone knows if the Givi panniers will fit the 2011 R?

On the Givi website it only shows up to model year 2010. Not sure if it has just not been updated but I know there were some changes to the 2011 R so not sure if they are compatible anymore.

I tried to email Givi but could not get a straight yes or no answer?

I know BMW has fantastic panniers but I've used the Givi bags on previous bikes and I like them..plus for some odd reason i like the look of them better as well.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Can't answer your question, but I have a few for you. Like you, I think the Givi V35s look better than the BMW panniers. I have a few questions though:

1) are they waterproof?
2) I've seen comments that their volume is less than you would think, given their nominal 34L capacity. The opinion being expressed was that their shape actually reduced the available space. Would you agree with that?
3) Finally, what racks have you used to attach them to your bike, the SW Motech connectors nominally get my vote as they appear to be easily detachable from the bike. Any thoughts?

I had the Givi panniers on my Aprilia Mana and I thought they were great. They were large enough to hold my fullface helmet and lots of clothes if you pack tightly. Yhe shape does make it odd for larger objects but for clothing (which I used for) they were great.

As for being waterproof I can't really tell you. I was caught in a few showers briefly but no extended or heavy rain. The rain I did ride in the panniers were not wet inside when I returned home.

As for mounting I was hoping to use the Givi mounting system, which is why I posted the question here as I'm not sure they will fit on the 2011 R.

My used R1200R 2007 came with all Givi...side cases and top case. I took the side racks what the Givi side cases mounted to, off. I like the look of the bike without the side cases. If you like to run with the side cases and if they fit 2011, then there you are and there you go. If you have the Givi side racks with no cases on, then I think the side racks look like crap.

On the other hand, the BMW mounting is more or less invisible with regard to their side cases, on or off.

On the other other hand; the Givi top cases and side cases may look better and are all you see in Europe where they presumably have more style that USA. I ride with no side cases, no side racks and have 3 top cases....A Givi Traffic II is the the everyday throw stuff in 35 litre. They don't make it anymore naturally, Tony found me one; and a 46 liter one that got damaged and needed a new lid and was probably fine; but, since I run with no side bags I bought an E55 which is pretty darn big but ought to hold a weeks worth of stuff and is probably same size as the $900.00 plus BMW official top case.

I wish someone made a smaller top case that did not hold a helmet and just for throwing stuff in...they don't they do for scooters but the mounts from GIVI are totally different, monolock vs monokey.

The smallest BMW top case is like 28 litres and just as ugly as the Traffic II from GIVI.

It it seriously worth going to your ocal dealer (if there's one handy) and looking at the New R-series (and K1300GT) panniers - on a bike - look at how they integrate and how streamlined they are (plenty of pics on this site too - here are mine -

These panniers are so far ahead of anything aftermarket as to knock them into the weeds:
- no impact on stabilty at any speed: I've seen 200kmh (125mph) without issue (not often!)
- on impact on fuel consumption - in fact a recent high-speed run withiout them saw might consumption than I see with them on.
- no noticeable effect from sidewinds
I'd hazard a gues that Givi, nice as they are, would not come close on those three criteria.
... then there's having a one-key bike ... and plenty of good-value aftremarket liners available, too

.. of course, it's your $ and your bike!

I am toying with the idea of BMW panniers to go with my new bike.
Questions:
1.I am curious to know what is the overall width of the bike with both mounted.
2.Do they get knocked around in city parking? Referring more so to bike parking area with multiple parked bikes.
3. Do they ship colour coded or do you basically purchase them and get them sprayed by 3rd party.

I have the Givi V35s on my R1200R. I have also ridden a friend's R1200R with the BMW cases and I haven't noticed a difference between them. I have only had mine up to 115 mph and his up to 80 or 90 but I really can't tell the difference. I also haven't noticed any difference in gas mileage with and without the cases.

I really like the BMW mounting system and it would be nice to have one key. Also, even though the Givi's say they're 35 liters I think they're definitely smaller than the BMW cases. To answer an earlier poster's question, I've ridden in heavy rain at times haven't noticed water inside the cases. My only problem with the BMW cases is the looks, and I decided I'd rather have the permanently mounted Givi brackets on the bike when I don't use the bags than have the BMW bags on it when I do. I'm happy with that decision.

This is personnal preference stuff; I was paying particular attention France where we saw a lot of R1200R's ... more that the R1200RT's and the R1200R's mostly ran with a top case and no side cases. In fact most of the motorcyles and all scooters only had a top case. Givi rules in that regard.

It's just me, but I'm astounded at how much better, for me, an R1200RT looks without bags on the back or just the small top case or a soft bag only.

Around here, San Diego, most all the RT's run with sides and top. I'm going on an overnight this weekend and loading up the single E55 giant Givi top case....we'll see how it handles all the gear....did two motel nights with the E46; so should be cake.

I'm going to dust off my Givi side cases and admire them from afar. Don't think I"ll put the side rack bars back on; but, I sure got em and I'll use them and load them if I can ever get gone for more than a week.

For what it's worth, I have just bought 2011 R1200R(replacing 2009 model) and as far as I can tell rear of bike is identical. Certainly the BMW cases and mounts are identical. Only problem might be te new model has different pillion hand holds.
