I have purchased a low mileage 2007 R1200R on ebay (thanks sunny72 and angellr for your encouragement). I will pick it up the first week in December and ride it home.
I will be installing a throttle lock on the bike when I get it to help with the 600+ mile ride home. Can anyone tell me the size of the bolt that holds the end weight on the bars? I want to make sure I bring everything I will need.
I am really looking forward to the long cold ride home.
Thanks,
Sean

Congrats! Its none of my business but I'm just curious because I too bought a low miles (2.3k), black R1200R with ABS, centerstand, heated grips, small windscreen. It was absolutely spotless when i got my hands on it (till i got my hands on it too!).
I paid $8,999 plus taxes title fees etc. so still out the door for well under 10k.
This one is Granite Grey, has ABS, heated grips, center stand, BMW engine (head) gaurds, BMW side cases, two windscreens and 247 miles. I paid 10K. My home state will collect the taxes, so that is an added cost. Maybe more than I should have, but I am happy and that is what counts. I have an appointment for the 600 mile service the day I pick it up (130 miles away) where they will do the service and the brake line recall and maybe the EWS ring if they can get an ok for it. When that is done I will head home which is close to 700 miles. I plan on taking two days to make the trip home.

I saw that bike on E-Bay. It looked to be spotless. A 2007 with 247 miles wow. Bought by a little old guy who did not ride it, not even to church on Sunday. Good Luck with your new bike. Where is the bikes new home going to be?
Congratulations. I bet you will ove your R12. Dog knows I've loved the two I've had (groan).
By the by, the 600 mile service includes a valve adjustment which is to be done with the valves cold. Your logistics plan should include some down time or cooloing off at the dealers before the valves get adjusted. Poper valve adjustment is critical for a smooth running engine.

Bruce,
Thanks for the heads up on needing a cool off period. I plan on being there between 1000-1100 which should give it time to cool down. I did the valve adjustments on my old R100S but hadn't thought about needing the bike cool since it has been a while. Hopefully this will be the only service done by a dealership.

Well.....it's gonna take longer than one hour from the time you get there until the time you ride off...I'd count on two at least.
Excellent. Congratulations. I know it's an R forum and all that but it really is a great bike. I bought my 2010 with 4000 more miles so good work. It never fails to impress me how long someone can own a motorcycle and not ride it. I really like that gray color too. Have fun.
Take two "atta boys" out of petty cash!! You will love the purchase (and the color, I might add) and you better have a full face helmet to keep the bugs off your SEG and teeth!!
