Wind Screen...Help

2. I do undersand the subject is almost as popular a subject as "oil".
3. Yes, I have been critical if not harsh of those those using windscreens. My Apology.

But I was cold (and wet), real cold and eventually damp during last years North East Florida's BMW Penquin Ride (1/1/2010), When it takes three and a half hours/ 230 miles to get to the start of the ride and its 50+/-5 degrees and raining the whole time you are very glad your electric vest is working!

We are in the dead of summer here in Sarasota so I am looking to upgrade my winter gear and perhaps, yes just perhaps even get a 20" windscreen - and get a deal if possible.

I am 5'11' with norma body proportions, riding on the factory seat.

Thoughts Ideas, recommendations on a real wind screen? How about a heated seat pad?

Probably the 20" or 22" CeeBailey with the BMW touring mount, tipped back with a Don C block would work well for you (although inseam would help narrow that down - "norma body proportions" covers a wide range of real dimensions.)

As far as a heated seat pad? I made my own, and Andy Goldstein must have thought this such a brilliant idea that I believe he now offers one. As silly as it seems - in 30F weather it's a Dogsend.. warming the butt warms the entire body. Just wish I'd had Sargent install a heating pad when they redid my seat.. but I was being frugal since I wasn't 100% sure I'd like the Sargent.

I'm running a 22" Cee Baily, angled back using a Ferguson Block, which performs the same finction as Don C's block. At 5' 8" I would love to try a 20" screen, because less may be more, although the 22 works perfectly.

Since you are a bit taller than I (when I'm sitting, my body proportions have me seeing eye to eye with guy's 5'10") I would think my combination would be just right for you.

This morning I rode 70 miles home from the YB breakfast in pouring rain and I was basically high and dry when I pulled into my garage. Windshield works great.

I am same height as you; I have the Cal Sci tall screen and the tilt modification of adding a 1" spacer to the bottom of the screen to add tilt. Works fine at any reasonable screen without buffet to my helmet, and is pretty good in rain too

OK, I am ready to purchase a Don C block or a Ferguson block. What is the difference in cost and function? And who do I contact?

The Ferguson Block was a one off and compared to Don C.'s block, a real kluge, in the most literal mechanical engineering sense.

I don't recall where to find Don's post, but searching around "windshields" should reveal. I think he posted around March or April.

Hi Don,
Yes, finally decided to get serious . Actually had one come in the Boneyard with 2000 miles and some light front end damage with a clean title. Seemed to good to part out so I am fixing and keeping it. Thought I'd get away with just a right side fork lower but the front frame ended up being tweaked, Having the Frame Man in Sacramento straighten it so we'll see. Even if I need to buy a new front frame and fork lower it was such a deal that it will be worth it. I am running out of room for "keepers" though!

Yeah, that is the downside I guess (for you at least ). I rode one briefly on an Edelweiss tour in the Alps a couple years ago and have wanted one since, great bike!

I received and installed Don C's very excellent windshield block. I have never installed anything on my bike that fit better. It is of excellent craftsmanship. TOP NOTCH! If Wunderlich made it it would cost ten times as much and come with ill written installation instructions but would be no better and quite possibly worse.
OK now you're wondering how I like it.

Is the consensus still a 22" Cee Baileys and a Don C block?

A little refresher...I'm 5'11" with ave proportions. BMW standard seat. I'm in Florida and I have an aversion
to cold. (Gerbings).
