I ride with S-Plugs from Lee Parks. The MP3 sound quality is OK, almost anything else is better, but the S-Plugs fit my ear canals and are comfortable under my helmet. Had them for 2 years and they are starting to fall apart.
I would love to find something else, my problem is small ear canals and I ride everyday ( commuter) so I need something that is robust and can withstand being taken in and out allot.

Custom fitted-Big-Ear...found them at a BMW dealership open house...squirted some cold liquid in my ear, few months later I had a perfect fiting pair of stereo ear-plugs. Now i've lost them and don't want to fork out the $300 something it cost me.

Standard- Bought a pair of Sennheiser earbuds and they work perfectly. They don't have a 'stiff' stem, so nothing getting pulled on when i put my helmet on and take it off. They're quite compact, and fit fully within my ear (ie, the main unit doesn't stick out to catch the helmet). They were only about $80, come with 3 different sizes of foam ends to fit your ear better (one ear has a slightly larger canal than the other for me, so this helps). And they filter noise out enough that the volume doesn't have to be ridiculous, but not too much that I have to take them out to ear someone sitting a few feet from me.

My biggest selling point has always been: comfort when putting on and removing my helmet, as well as how well they stay put with all my moving around, and talking/singing to myself in my helmet. The Sennheisers are great.

I have the Isolator earphones model ER-6i for my i pod..
Great quality sound, when the road turns technical I turn off the tunes, they work as ear plugs..
Shop around, I paid somewhere under $100.

Etymotic ER-6i

Also have ER-4P set, but they don't work well under helmet due to length of transducer.

The Er-6i are the best of the 4-5 pairs that I have tried. Almost as good as ear plugs in reducing the wind noise.

set of cheap Panasonic (IIRC) "out of the ear" heaphones dismantled and the "speaker" unit installed within the helmet lining of my Arai.

Allows me to wear proper protective earplugs AND listen to music. :)

Shure E2c . Great sound, and you can leave the volume low enough to still hear the motor.
I use these under My helmet, whether I'm riding My bike, snowmobile, or john deere tractor, I have them on.

+1 for Etymotics.
Kind of late to weigh in but I've also tried many different ones and Etymotics keep coming out on top for comfort (small), sound quality and noise reduction. Either the E6i or the E4p or E4s (more expensive but better wiring). I have some fairly new Etymotic H5 headphones that I tried but found no better than the E4p so I'm selling them.

New two step polymer you can get at a safety store or gun shop. You mold these around the ear bud of your choice and then push them into your ear, carefully shaping and molding to your ear. Cost is $12 bucks or so. They stay in place under the helmet, cut the noise and allow comfortable listening. They also work under hearing protection when working in loud work areas, like when I mow 8 acres with my kubota zero turn and listen to the Nano.
Radians Tan Custom Molded Earplugs 26 dB (CEP002T)
Local Gun Shop carried them for less than $12... what once cost $80 plus to have made for you, you can do at home now.

I'm very happy with 3D Bass Helmet Speakers #396 from Aerostitch http://www.aerostich.com/navigate-commu ... akers.html. They're very comfortable in my helmet and produce excellent sound.
