Indicator bulbs - chrome amber

Post by Lance »

Hi,

I'm not much of a farkler (have only 1 mount for smartphone so far), however, I would like to change the yellow/amber indicator/directional bulbs on my '07 R12R to the chrome amber type as I have the clear lenses. Unfortunately, I've only seen these available for earlier models.

Has anyone fitted these? If so, where can they be obtained?

Thanks,
Lance

Your 07 should have come from the factory with amber directionals. If you want to go to clear here is a fairly good deal; http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=43701 . I thing I found them cheaper on e-bay buy had to buy bulbs locally. the bulbs are standard bulbs that can be purchased in your local auto parts store, I think they come in clear, amber and chrome. I've since converted to LEDs front and back and they have worked out very well for me.

I had the silver coated bulbs on my RT and currently on the front running lights on my SLK. They do look much better with the clear lenses, but be aware they are a much darker amber and not nearly as vibrant as the stock amber coated bulbs; so much so, I don't use them in turn signals any more.

I think these may be the bulbs you're referring to: http://www.europeanautosource.com/produ ... cts_id=446

I'm not finding bulbs at these links. I'm finding lens. ??? I too am interested in a silver / chrome bulb. I have knocked the lens off 2 or 3 times and have an extra sittin' right here. One time I kicked the lens off when I was throwing my leg over the bike. 8) I bought the lens for about ten dollars maybe less from a dealer.
I think trying a local auto parts house as suggested is a good idea but would perfer to get a specific part.

Robert,
Here's a link to everything you could want to know about 1156/7506 bulbs: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/ar ... 70187.html

Or you could just go into your local auto parts store buy four silver #1156 bulbs, pop them in and see what happens.

Hi All,

Thanks for the responses. My '07 came from the dealer with the clear lenses with the amber bulbs which I'm trying to replace with the silver chrome amber ones. The LED replacements would work, however, the price difference is significant enough for me to at least go with the chrome amber ones first if possible. I know it's just for the looks but I've modified nothing else yet and the amber bulbs stand out quite a bit against the rest of the bike (granite grey). If it weren't illegal (in US) to not have those yellow/amber reflectors on the side of the forks, I'd pull those right off too. :)

Anyway, I've seen the bulbs in the links mentioned above, however, the bulb profile doesn't seem to match what I have and I'm not sure of the pin configuration either.

Here are some pictures of the bulb I have:

http://s995.photobucket.com/albums/af77 ... a83b59.pbw

You can see it is very small/short compared to the other bulbs I've seen. Pins are not at 180 degrees either.

Hard to tell if those taller bulbs would be too close or even hit the indicator lens.

Thanks,
Lance

Lance - one of the reflectors on my front fork fell off , the other one came off with a little help. I can't imagine it ever becoming a problem on the road, if it does, some double sided tape will stick them back on.
