Hi all, I've been trying to get info on the R12R before I got one. This web site has done that for me and I've enjoyed all your inputs with some good laughs along the way. Now that I have the wheels on my property (as of noon today) I jumped on board. Tomorrow hopefully I'll have the plates on her so I can complete the mission.
I guess a little history of how I got here is in order. Been away from riding for twenty some years. Two years ago came back in the game. Got a used 06 Suzuki C50 Boulevard. I picked that one because of the lighter weight and the rocking chair seating posture should help for an old man. I liked it but just felt something was missing. A few months later I bought a K1200LT. Quite an increase in weight and soon tired of that. Spring of 09 I got the R1200C. Coming from the other 2 bikes I finally found my dream machine. Until I got nosy and started looking around the internet. Wanted something that I could lean a little more in a turn "was scraping floor boards". I Was really attracted to the R12RT until I started to read the praises of the R12R. Went down to a BMW dealer and took one out for 3/4 hour. Well you guys know the drill as far as that goes. Told the dealer I would come back with a check the following week and to give me a quote on my 12C, though I wasn't decided yet as to if I would trade it in. Emailed a guy who I was back and forth with in setting up a time to see his 07 he had for sale. He said he'd show me the bike this past Saturday. Did that and agreed on the sale "I would get the bike for the same price as the 09 from the dealer without trading my 12C. Hope I didn't bore anyone but I had to get that off my chest.
By the way when I informed the BMW dealer I was getting a used R12R he offered to look the bike up if I had the vin#, which I had and he ran the info back to me.
Need someone to steer me how to get over to where I can leave a contribution. I wanted to but didn't see where up til now. Please forgive anything I've left out. I'm not used to posting. Paul

Welcome Sondey and Mistral.

I got a new 2009 R1200R in February and have about 750 miles on mine. I previously rode a R1200C and a R1200RT. I wish I had kept the C, but was not unhappy trading the RT for the R.

I think you will enjoy the R.

You asked about membership to the forum. Here are the instructions that I copied from the Off Topic section, under a heading entitiled membership:

"For donation and member information: http://www.r1150r.net/contact.html and then click on the donation button.
Basically, its $25/yr or $60/lifer and you can send payment securely via Paypal (A Paypal account is not required."

I think they appreciate the donationation to keep the site up and running.

Don, I'm another Jersey rider. How do I go about adding that info as I see you have on the left of the screen?

Upper right corner of every page "User Control Panel" - then look for "Profile" and look for "Edit signature"

Whatever you put in the signature will display on any message you post..

Where are you in NJ? There are several good local clubs:
  • North Jersey BMW Riders - northeast corner of the state.
  • Skylands BMW Riders - northwest corner of the state
  • NJ Shore BMW Riders, central and shore area of the state * http://www.njsbmwr.org
  • New Sweden BMW Riders, southwest corner of the state and Philly burbs.. * http://www.newswedenbmwriders.org/
I'm a member of the two with stars, and am friends with Skylands. Don't see a lot of the North Jersey club - the other three clubs frequently do events together. Just did a brake service tech-session last Saturday at my house - members from NJS and New Sweden in attendence.

Don, thanks for the reply I'll do that signature tomorrow. I'm up in north Jersey. Garfield, about 15 miles west of NYC. I'm riding with a club now, SCRC 173, that goes out every Sunday. A mix of harleys and jap bikes. Nice bunch of guys. Saw that bike you pointed out for 7900. Got mine with the same package w/ 1800 miles for 9500. Got the bags thought they're a little scuffed up.

In answer to the color of my bike. After I cleaned the road grime off today I learned that Black is the best color the R12R comes in. But that could have been the result of a bonding process.

That is exactly what happened to me. I've had my new R12R for two weeks now and the ride just keeps getting better. Enjoy your first ride, Paul ... will be thinking of you :)
