alt belt

Post by dutchbikes »

I have a 2004 Rockster. I took off the alt belt and now I can not get the new one on. I have read the clymer manual and it stated to look for the triangle on the cover, well i found it after I took off the old belt with ease. Do I really have to have a dealership install the new belt? Matter of fact the old belt is a 11.28-7681841-692637-4 pk 592 new belt from a BMW shop oem is 12.31 7681841-692637-4 pk 592 so the numbers are not the same.

some one please advise - the long weekend is nearing.

Thanks
Dutch

you'll need to loosen off the alternator in order to get the new belt on, then re-position it.

Somewhere (I don't have a copy here), there's a procedures manual with a description of how to do this.

Actually there are two belts and it depends if the alternator has a regular pulley (early models) or the anti-ratcheting pulley. Since you have that arrow on the cover you have tea latter....the dealer should be aware of this and provide you with the right belt.

The video, shows the early pulley. I wrote something on the belt diference in the R1150R forum.....you might want to do a search.

Well - i put the "old style" belt on with the new style alt. It fits well. The "new pulley belt " was around 15% smaller and had a different part number...

Now some times my bike cuts out.

I mean i will drive home from work down the highway @ 75 plus , slow down for the exit. come to a complete stop. I will give the bike some gas and BOOM!. The Beemer is dead. The is unacceptable. I have also completed the 24k maints on it.

#-o The bike will re-start

I may be forced to send it to the dealer. All failed roads lead to the dealer....please help.....Thanks Dutch
