Okay boys and girls, I now have right at 16,000 miles on the ME880s. I'm hereby taking raffle guesses for the remaining miles I can put on these bad boys. Here's a photo I took just this morning.
Send your best guestimate handwritten on a one dollar bill, addressed to me, Boxer to:
1210 Cousins Rd.
Woodstock, GA 30188
The winner, after tire installer validates actual total mileage, receives a beautiful 3" metal and glass BMW roundel valued at $37.56, made to be attached to the rear of any fine vehicle...or person.
Boxer Sir....you are on....I will remit my entry as soon as you define what in your book is considered end of life......wear bar....cords showing.....inquiring minds want to know. I told you that the Helium/Argon trick would work and you didn't believe it !!!!

Let me save you some embarrasment....you are talking about someone that got 77K miles out of the OEM shocks before replacement.......do you know of anyone with that track record and he is an avid rider or so they tell me.
When I first met the gentleman, several years ago, he had a pair of riding boots that by the looks alone must have been 35 years old, it was several years after that initial meeting (having coffe in an inside patio of a coffe shop in Franklin TN) that he finally let them go.........which brought tears to his eyes. He insisted on a proper burial with a one man band and the eulogy delivered by a Hooters retiree.......

For those doubting the legitimacy of my mileage claim, here is a photo I just took of the page in my service booklet where I put the 880s on the bike in '07.
And here is another pic I just took a few minutes ago of my current mileage, with my watch showing todays date and time.
Showing an exact "BMW" miles of 15,859. The tires will expire when I see no tread left in the middle. I won't wear the rear to the cords...Unless they show up in a surprising manner, such as happens with the Z6.
I'm recording each guess in the back of this same service booklet...However, if you don't send a dollar you won't get the BMW roundel, even if you get it exact. That's just one of the rules. To receive the coveted roundel, you must send a dollar with your guess written on it.
Jeepers, Phil, 21 months on the same tires? How you do that? I go thru a rear every 9 months. ME880's got me the best mileage of any that I've tried (about 9k on the rear), and with 60k miles on the clock, I've tried 'em all. Just so you know, judging by that pict, that rear is gonna go away a lot quicker than you think - with no tread in the center, don't rely on wear bars to tell you when to replace. You'll be showing cord before you know it.
Viagra Donor and well-known reprobate and provocateur ....
Phil rides a "smooth" ride. Never hard on the throttle. You have 2356 miles left. Bill is in the mail.
880's are the best wearing tires I have ever tried. I am POd that they do not make one for the R1200RT.

I was talking about him telling us all to send our guesses on dollar bills. Perhaps to use the money towards more farklization. Thus the sneaky and clever.

I thought I was the King. Here's my Pirelli Strada with a 15,000 mile nail in it. I changed this one because it had to come off anyhow, but there's some miles left in it.
Boxer's tire still doesn't look that bad. I think you'll lose your money.
I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.
I just spoke with Boxer this afternoon, the ME880's big mileage number came up, but no mention of his dollar deal emblem was made. Yes, the ME880's are the longest lasting tires, exactly what Boxer needs -but- they are definitely NOT noted for their track day prowess. That's track day remark is being polite too.
Considering the almost 79K on a bike that's never had the clutch splines lubed and a driveshaft U-Joint that has a tight notchy bearing, we may not see that tire wear out this year. If it doesn't make it, no worries mates, the Boxer I know is a benevolent man of honor and will send the emblem to the closest wrong guess. So, everybody has an excellent chance of winning, no matter how low your guess is. This is not a stunt he's doing. It's the real thing.
On the phone I also did my best to illuminate those "2 ticking time bombs" -and- the timely wisdom of trading it in on a new F800ST . . . . a lightweight, very fuel efficient, low maintenance, high performance modern bike perfectly matched to the kind of riding he'll do as an adventurous senior citizen (see his pic above).
I need to contact Jenny without his knowing to get the new bike ball rolling. She loves him so much, I'll soon have another F800 buddy to ride with.

Oh no you don't . Not this again!

Yeh, you look pretty honest(well sorta honest) but I can see that's the emblem that got pried off my top case while my bike was parked in Mexico near the town of Xico! I had it stuck on with weatherstrip adhesive, so the winner just needs to check the back for traces... BTW, that's a neat trick, collecting dollar bills from thousands and thousands of us peons to buy a new set of tires , while we innocently play "TIRE LOTTERY"! , pants on fire...
Out of the thousands who sent me a dollar and made an honest guess, I had to draw one randomly from the hundreds of correct guesses.
I got about 40 more miles....BiffsR is the winner, with his guess of 6. My new ME880 runs so smoothly now, it is burning up my rear rotor.
Oh well. If it isn't one thing, its another.
