Help !?!
My dealer drive me CrAzY...

My dealer gave me my bike yesterday but probably after the bike was washed they forgot to re-connect 2 black rubber tubes... one coming from the big black cannister located behind the fork in between the gas tank and underneath the handlebar system, this big black canister is probably a filter and an other black rubber tube was left alone coming from somewhere else...
I trusted him and drove the first 80miles until a friend noticed these weird free tubes while looking at the bike.
Now I am worry and slightly pissed off because this type of servicing when you spend almost $14000 on a BMW bike do not respect at all or either serve the image of precision and excellence of BMW Motorrad

I called the dealer right away.... Services was closed on Sunday but I asked him to compare with an other R1200R to check first if it was normal that way and if those black tubes was left hanging the same way on the other bike still in store display.

And NO ! they were not hanging free on the other bike, looking closely at the bike my friend and me concluded they certainly have to be plugged somewhere on 2 little tube connectors on the right side in front under the gas tank not far from the horn. one has a yellow mark on it that match the same yellow mark on the connector and obviously with my Friend we deducted that this second black rubber tube must be plugged on the second connector, the one free of yellow marking.

My questions are :

Is it the same on your R1200R's ? mine is a 2008

Do you think it has or it could affect the bike normal functionality or proper break in ?

I wander if I have to request this incident to be documented on paper in case the bike do not run fine soon.

Also !!! next to the rear brake pedal...behind the rear pedal precisely there is the end of a tube that is a part of the frame. and it seems like some type of rubber or plastic cap is missing because the 4 or 5 screws arranged in a some type of "Star" are visible. At this Location...Is there a black plastic cap on your bike ?

The same thing hapened to me after a service and I rode about 200km with them like that before I saw them and plugged them back again. The cover you talk about - none of the bikes have them - BMW say it is so that water / moisture cannot build up in there.

Those hoses are the vapor recovery system to/from the charcoal canister which is the black "can" in front of the tank, and between the forks. If you take your seat off, you will find the vacuum hose routing diagram on the sticker with the tire inflation information and other stuff on top of the wheel housing at the rear of the seat area. Simply figure out which hose goes where and reconnect them. It is somewhat common for these to pull loose if the tank has been removed or simply slid back to access under the tank area. This is not a big deal, other than the dealer should have caught the problem.

Depending on what you are looking at, there are push-on fittings up under the right side of the tank which is probably where the hoses came from. You may have to remove the trim panels on both sides, and the tank retaining bolt on the left side of the tank to slide it back enough to actually see and access the fitting.

Thanks folks for all those explanations... the bike run fine now...after 100 miles and those free black rubber tubes hopefully repositioned at the right place I can now feel the bike a bit more speedy particularly in 1,2 and even third gear.

I'll stop by the dealer tomorrow to ask again to the mechanic the eventual consequences of such mistake and request a full final checkup plus some adjustments notably the headlight that I found a bit low and the right brake lever too far to reach...

Thanks folks for all those explanations... the bike run fine now...after 100 miles and those free black rubber tubes hopefully repositioned at the right place I can now feel the bike a bit more speedy particularly in 1,2 and even third gear.

I'll stop by the dealer tomorrow to ask again to the mechanic the eventual consequences of such mistake and request a full final checkup plus some adjustments notably the headlight that I found a bit low and the right brake lever too far to reach...

The brake and clutch levers are user adjustable. I'd suggest spending an hour with the owners manual. There is a VERY SIMPLE adjustment to change the reach on these levers. The headlight is also user adjustable and details are in the owners manual (short version: loosen screws, adjust, tighten screws.)

No - that's how it's supposed to be. Various aftermarket makers of bling (Wunderlich for instance) make a fancy and expensive aluminum cap to close up that opening (available in various colors..) According to BMW (someone asked) it's open to prevent moisture accumulating around the swingarm bearings. Given German propensity for over-engineering, I suspect they really mean it. If you do go to buy the cap from Wunderlich - it has to be specifically for the R12R since the ones for the GS are a different size (I tried..)
