I wanted to thank the forum and ka5ysy for the advice on installing GS Handguards and Throttlemeister. Also, I'll try and show some pics of the Z-Shield installed and give my opinion on it going down the road, when the snow melts.
First impression of the V-Stream shield from ZTechnik is it's made well, with a very strong frame and attached as good as the BMW stock frame. The color matches the grey color that is found on the bike. It is best to have 2 people to install as you have to raise the handlebars and slide the frame under the bars and cables. I have Wunderlich bar risers and had to slide the risers to the aft position in order to fit the bracket. I did have them in the center position but I have no problem with this setup.





I went with the black bar ends to match what came on the bike and they have some texture as well. I thought they might be better with gloves than a smooth finish.



The handguards went on just as Ka5ysy said they would. My fab work isn't as good as his but it'll get me by. The standard guards come in grey and the tall are black. At first I wanted black but the grey does seem to go with the bike trim and now the Z-Shield.



I hope to get a ride in this Fri as the temps go to the upper 50s and see how this shield does.

Question ... how did you mount the hand guards at the end of the bars? The stock bolt seems to be too short, and the a longer hex-cap I got seems as though it will simply pull itself into the Al washer / centering cone. (I tried searching for ka5ysy's posts on this, but must have had a brain fade ... can't seem to find it.)

The Throttlemeister set contains new bolts that mate to the Throttlemeister adapters for the ends of the hand guards. The BMW end adapters are not used, nor are the original bolts. Check my article for the specifics. It is really an easy installation, except that you will need to fabricate a small jumper bracket to match the throttle-side inner bar clamp to the hand guard because the brake master cylinder is a little too long by about 2 inches.

Snow during the week and temps jumped to mid 60s this weekend. Did 200 miles or so behind the Z shield, although I knew within 20 miles this size is not for me. At speeds above 50 mph I have moderate helmet buffet. My 6'4" friend went for a ride and said "my vision was about to blur from the helmet buffet" Then my 5'7" friend went for a spin and reports "nice ride". He says the shield is great for him without buffet and great protection. This is a good example of how shields are a personal fit. I'm going to drop down to the standard size which is 3" shorter and see how that fits. I still think the V Stream is well made, and looks good, and will work great in wind protection with the correct personal fit. Ztechnik offers the try and buy policy at participating bike shops to aid in making that fit. More to come.
Here is a shot of the post office & gen store in historic Rugby, TN with a couple other BMWers. That K1200S might have a few more hp but it's not as cool as the R.

Very much so. He's below the turbulence - it's still there but he's low enough that it's not pushing his helmet around.

When I checked with ZTechnik - they didn't offer this policy with the R1200R shield due to the labor involved in mounting it on the bike. Dunno if that changed since then.
