I've seen riders removing the silencer on their R1150R and I just did it today.
Before that I called the local BMW dealer and asked about it, the guy wasn't really sure.
I love the new sound without it, I can now use the left RT case and bike is 16 lb lighter without spending 600.00 or 800.00 on a new pipe.
Anybody has expereiecne with it? Can I cause any harm to the engine?
Thank you,
Tibor

Absolutely no harm, do buy a turned down chrome tailpipe at the auto store to prevent water, like rain, from getting into the cat converter. BTW, the pipe diameter at the cat is 1 3/4 inches (1.75 inches).

I just reinstalled my silencer after 2000 miles, as I retarded spark and performance drop over that time. I have fallen back in love with the "Swiss Watch" sound of the proper back pressure and sound reduction. although growl was cool, I found, unlike other posters, that my bike didn't run as well without.
