"me too"

Post by indigoid »

Hello from a newbie :D

I ordered a black R1200R with the pinstripe option, ABS, ESA and most of the other electronic fruity bits a couple of weeks ago, it'll be my second bike ever. I should be picking it up in mid November. First bike is a fairly farkled '07 Dakar, and I'm keeping it. I hope the R1200R ABS is better than the F650 ABS. I've found that it only takes a very small amount of damage to the ABS sensor rings before it will start behaving really badly. Unimpressed, (especially at 100AUD per ring!) but that's for another forum :)

I looked at a lot of other bikes before deciding on the RR. Most other modern nakeds, K1200R included, are about as appealing as a not-very-appealing thing. Styling too busy, funny angles everywhere. The Aprilia Dorsoduro looked really promising but they're not selling them here yet and I wanted a new bike before the end of the year. Also really, really liked the Triumph Bonneville that I tested, though the gearing felt all wrong -- despite the extra power and torque it felt quite flat compared to my Dakar. Easily fixed with chain and sprockets, but then I tested an R1200GS (knowing I didn't want a second dualsport bike) and fell utterly in love with the boxer /shaft / Telelever trio, and at that point my decision was made.

Congratulations Newbie,

You'll enjoy the bike. Best ever, and I've had a few including an 06 1200 RT. This bike just does it all and the shifting is like butter.

The R1200GS I tested was very difficult to get into first gear from neutral when cold. Strange. Fabulous once it warmed up, though. I was nervous after reading a bunch of postings on various forums complaining about the huge difference between the boxer's dry clutch and the wet clutch of most other bikes (my Dakar included), but honestly I didn't notice the difference.

The RR is my 3rd BMW and by far my favourite. I love the way she handles, the torque, the sound of the engine.

I took her down to Pennsylvania in the rain last weekend and she handled it like a champ. The only complaint I have is that the stock headlight is pathetic. I've replaced it with a HID and that has made all the difference.

You made a great choice - enjoy.
