Oilhead oil filter in a Hexhead?

Post by sandycruz »

There's info on a number of Beemer sites that say a Oil-head filter will fit on our Hex-heads.

Has anyone actually done this?

Thanks for your input.

It will fit on and work fine.. but it will also hang down below the engine about 1/2", so if you take the bike off-road, or hop curbs with it, that could be a concern. Note that the wrench for the oilhead filter is different than the one for the hexhead filter.

Thanks Don,

I've got a bunch of BMW filters for my R1100S and since its up for sale I thought I could use them up on the R12. The R11 filters are bigger that the R12 filters, and we all know bigger is better.
