Cute! VERY cute!!

Post by Greybeard »

As I clean the rest of the brake fluid out of my left ear I can't help but chuckle at this Teutonic practical joke, this Germanic equivalent of the dribble glass.

Did I miss it when they warned "watch out for the tiny geyser from the front brake fluid reservoir"?
And my first stroke was very soft &steady.
prrrrRRRP!!
Right in the ear.

What the hell IS that!?

I've been maintaining my own mechanical devices since the '50's and I've never encountered anything like it.....live & learn, eh?

I'm not laughing at you. But I am laughing. That is a play out of my playbook.

Rinse that stuff out good.(still laughing)

Helpful recommedation a bit too late...(chuckle) put a CLEAN utility knife blade, or similar type thing (giggle) inside the reservoir to block the geyser. This applies to the clutch also.

IN THE EAR??? (I can't breathe)
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

Greybeard,
Every bike made with the reservoir over the piston bore will do the same thing. The BMW system requires an especially S-L-O-W initial squeeze .
Doing it that way you'll still see fluid movement to the surface of the pond.

What's happening is the piston movement is pushing fluid out the tiny bleedback hole until it goes past it, sealing it off and beginning to "pump" up the pressure. The first 1/2" of lever movement is where patience is required. 8-[

Does Greybeard indicate an *older* model? If so...are there compatibility issues with DOT 4 or 5?
