I will. I currently have a KLR and although it is better in the dirt than a GS, it doesn't have the legs of the GS. So I will maybe not do some things on it I do on the KLR, but it was purchased to ride far and get dirty.

Tomorrow AM I am heading to Sequoia Kings Canyon, then Yosemite, then Bridgeport, and a photography session at Bodie. 3 days 2 nites, camping.

Camping gear and 40 D onboard.

108 here today and really bad fire smoke, so maybe not the best ride, but I will use a camelback and a cool vest and should be ok.

I have not taken (nor do I plan to) the R in the dirt (though you have proven it is quite capable).

Since you posted I've added a new favorite search to ebay motors and scouted out the local dealers.
A GS would be dreamy. Seeing your ride report and pics makes me want one even more....

Of course, I live in a condo just outside Boston with no parking space and two vehicles. It's doubtful another bike would be manageable.

Just thinking out loud here, but if you had to keep only one, the R or the GS which would you choose and why?
Probably too soon to tell...

Good luck with the bike and I hope the battery thing was a one time quirk.

Watch Craigs List. That is where I found this one. PM me and I'll tell you.

If I could only have one, I think I'd sell both and buy a 2008 R1200GS. The 1150 is heavier and has less power.

I've sat on the 2005-2007 1200 GS's and I like the seating ergos better on the 1150. The 2008 seems to have corrected some of the issues, but you could do it yourself with bar risers and seat changes.

But I love the smile factor on my R and do not want to get rid of it. The GS does not have it. Thankfully I don't have to.
