Finally - NHTSA BRAKE RECALL for the R1200R

Finally the brake recall on the R1200R,GS,ST has appeared, NHTSA Campaign ID Number 08V254000. I received word yesterday from my brother. He said some friends from Canada had found the recall. Summary:
BMW IS RECALLING 3,248 MY 2007-2008 R1200R, MY 2006-2007 R1200 GS AND MY 2007 R1200 ST MOTORCYCLES. DUE TO THE CURRENT ROUTING OF THE FRONT BRAKE LINES, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT DURING RIDING, THE BRAKE LINES COULD BE UNDER STRAIN. IF THE VIBRATION/STRAIN IS SIGNIFICANT, THE BRAKE LINES COULD SPLIT AND START TO DEVELOP A LEAK. IF THE LEAK BECAME SIGNIFICANT, BRAKE FLUID COULD ESCAPE. IF THIS HAPPENED, THE LEVEL OF FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR OF THE FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM COULD DROP.
Consequence:
IF FLUID LEVEL DROPS SIGNIFICANTLY, THE FRONT BRAKES COULD FAIL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND INSTALL NEW BRAKE LINES WITH A MODIFIED ROUTING FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JUNE 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-831-1117.

That explains why my dealer - where the parts guy doesn't like to actually stock a lot of parts - said they have plenty of the brake lines in stock. I'll have it done when I get back from West Virginia..

I haven't had a lick of trouble with my brakes. I will keep an eye on the fluid level and get this done at my next service interval.

I've noticed that my brake line was kinda tight, but only after I installed the barbacks. I wonder if they'll fix it anyway.

I already had this leak on my bike. The fluid leaked from under the tank and dripped down to the ground by the kick stand. I thought it was oil due to the location.

It was repaired under warranty, but I wonder if the repair meets the requirements of the recall? I will have to ask the dealer.

They will not replace the brake line to the handlebar.
But if you tell them in advance that you want a longer line there the exchange is cheaper for you than at any other time since they have to refill the whole system anyhow and so have to charge much less for work.

So which brake lines are they replacing and rerouting, if not the line to the master cylinder?
