Is riding through Illinois and Iowa possible in a week?

Hey Folks, My heart goes out to all of you living in the flooded areas out west. I plan to ride on route 80 through Chicago into Iowa and then north on route 29 into South Dakota. I should be in Iowa by June 20th. I was wondering if this might be a bad idea or impossible. Any insight from you folks living there would be helpful. I can get only so much info from the online news channels. Obviously the situation is serious and again my heart goes out to you. Thank you. Patrick

Send a PM to Iowabeakster... he just rode through that stuff last weekend and of course he's over there riding in it now. My part of Illinois is fine. You'll be fine... at worse you make have to make some detours if you get to a flooded road or something. I'd say stay away from rivers and you'll be fine. Stay on the main roads and no problem.

As long as you keep up with traffic (75-90MPH) no problem.

Hey, after today you shouldn't have any major problems. It's great outside and as long as you don't go into the boonies of Illinois you will be fine.

I-80 between Iowa City and the Quad Cities just opened up a couple hours ago (Monday 16th, evening). You should be fine. Sorry for the delayed response, my internet went down for a couple days. Then there was that whole sandbagging thing...

There are many other roads and bridges that are closed and ruined. My local riding sucks (much more than normal)...I can't get anywhere. But I-80 should be clear sailing.
