F800ST handlebar

I really like my R12R. However, I would like to get leaned forward more. Just leaning forward doesn't quite work for me -- with my extra long arms, they end up doubled back on themselves (more or less).

So, I thought about fitting a flatter handlebar. I stopped by the dealership and talked with the service manager. He knows of one customer who did this and liked the result. Only down side was the hands can hit the tank, but he thought the turn lock could be adjusted to avoid this.

I'm going to have this done. Anyone else try this?

I have not tried this myself as my arms are pretty normal if not short ( Like the rest of me ). Most here who have made adjustments to the handlebars have gone the other direction and added bar backs of some sort. I have worried that the bike bike would loose some of it's sportiness by moving the bars back but ChiTown has proven that that is not the case.
Back to your subject, maybe you could try the bars off of a Rockster. They were shorter and flatter.

Thanks for the tip about the Rockster, I forgot about it. However, I think I'll stick with the F800ST bar. There was a F800ST next to a R1200R on the showroom floor, so I was able to get an idea of how the new bar would shift the ergos; probably about the best sense of it short of putting the new bar on.

I once had a R1100R onto which I put a straight bar. It kind of worked.

I would like to make the same change myself, lower more forward bars, maybe less bend to the back. I thought abour Rockster ones myself but have not pursued it. Do you have heated grips? Would they be an issue? Have you priced the bars from the ST800?

The service manager did not have the prices on hand. He did know the heated grips (on my bike) would not be an issue since the wires for those run external to the bars.

I will have the work done in mid-July. He told me the shop has been swamped with bikes people haven't ridden in years. It looks like the $4+ per gallon of gas has made a large number of people view those toys in the garage as regular transportation.
