F800GS Report

Post by Boxer »

Jamie Elvidge gave the new F800GS a glowing report in the new Motorcyclist magazine. She was in South Africa doing the test riding. The aged Dominatrix may have to be put out to pasture when that F800GS becomes available.

Here's another article from mwerks:

I rode my 800GS in Spain a few weeks ago.

It is a very focused bike and will only truly reward those that use a firm hand with it.
Personally, i think the 650 in (much) more road oriented, while the 800 lives on sandy, pebbled mountain roads.

The seat is REALLY hard, the steering is a bit heavy but still "BMW" perfect.
Suspension and brakes are excellent and need no improvement (finally no need for ohlins!!!)

The twin engines are truly sweet. Loads of usable power & feels much more punchy than the claimed 85bhp.
Also, the exhaust note is a real surprise; deep tone with a touch of anger.

Here are some pics:

eisen, Thanks for the first hand report.

Motorcycle Consumer News also did a review. They predict that the F800GS will displace the R1200GS as BMW's top seller.

It might be, if BMW ever sees fit to bring the bike stateside. They have been teasing us for over 6 months.

eisen - I know lots of folks eagerly awaiting this bike and you probably did not help matters with that report!

I like that color better than the black and yellow, BTW!
'02 in black - the real BMW color! (Now gone to a new home)
