Brake line question

I have a '02 R1150R and have a question about the brake lines. Are they SS braided or not? I was contemplating changing the brake lines when I take the bike out of storage, and when I spoke to my shop, they said the bike already has SS brake lines, they are just coated with a plastic/rubber coating to reduce abrasion. I can't check them to make sure at this time.

Are they black rubber, or clear rubber with the braided stainless visible through the clear rubber?

I think the SS lines were used starting in 04.

Hey, pjbmw - assuming you do not currently have braided lines, do you have any suggestions as far as aftermarket products? I'm looking to do the same thing on my '97 R - also will install speed bleeders at the same time.

The o2 R's had rubber lines, unless someone changed them.....I'm surprised that your dealer didn't have a more definite answer......

If the brake fluid has been changed, the brakes operate well and there are no cracks and splits on the brake lines you need not worry about the lines. Get that bike out and enjoy it......

If your '02 does not have SS brake lines (unlikely), the site below sells them. There are specific lines for each application - you can get them in different colors too. One aspect of the swap to SS lines is that the line to the front calipers jumps over a connection block in the non-ABS version (not sure about ABS version). So the SS approach replaces two lines with one. This makes the line route more efficient and better looking.

Thanks for the replies all. They always seemed to be plain old rubber to me. They don't have any cracks in them and the brakes get flushed at the start of the season, so they should be fine. Since the bike is coming up on its seventh season I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade them, I remember how much of a difference that upgrade was on my 83 R100

Now if it would just rain for a few days to wash all the dirt, sand, and salt off the roads.
