Finally got my bike back from the dealer after they changed the Wilber shock damping. I then installed an Ilimberger rear hugger. When I tried to install the BMW bags, I found that the remote rear shock preload adjuster mounted on the right passenger peg holder, as installed by the dealer, will either hit the hugger during a good-sized bump to will interfere with installing the bags. Anyone else have this problem? Suggestions?

Also, I wish I took a good look at the bag installation when I took them off (before taking the bike to the dealer). When I reinstalled them, there is a good half inch gap where the forward lower bag mount engages the passenger peg part of the mount. Otherwise, the bags seem to be mounted solidly. Is this normal?

Check out the photo below...it's a view looking down on the bag mount. With my bags, there is no gap between the rubber on the passenger peg assembly and the system case . If we're talking about the same area, a 1/2 inch gap does not sound right.

I don't believe any gap is normal.. Michael - is that on an R1200R? And what is the cool clip - that's not stock..

Get Wilbers to give you a setup where the remote preload adjuster mounts where the factory one does - under the seat. The Hyperpro one mounts there. You can move the banjo bolts around on the preload adjusters hose as long as you have no preload dialed in - very slightly loosen them and move the take-off angle where you need it to be, then retighten. If you do it carefully it can be done with no loss of the hydraulic fluid. The preload adjuster isn't under any pressure when there is no preload dialed in with it. The remote gas reservoir (if you have one) DOES have gas pressure in it - and loosening one of those hoses would be a very bad thing.

I ride a R1150...just realized this was posted in the R1200 forum but I'd still bet that a half inch gap is not normal.

The clip is to secure the bag so that it will not accidently pop off - extra insurance that I won't lose the bag and it's contents. I got the idea from CycleRob who posted a how-to complete with photos.

Regarding the gap: I mean vertically--from the top of the rubber pad on the footrest mount to the bottom of the bag. There is no gap from side to side, just like the above picture. Thanks!

I ride an R1150R Beakster, so I'm not sure this applies to the R12R, but on my bike, the slots that the bags drop into on the grab rail are longer than the tab on the bags, so there is some tolerance in the fore-and-aft location. If this happened on my bike, I'd release the bag latch and give the bag a forward smack, then snap the latch closed again.

It is important to note - the 1150 bags are completely different in how they fasten to the bike... the 1200 bags slide down over the footpeg bracket tab, and lock into two nubs on the top frame rail. It's a very simple, elegant mount... and a lot easier to use than the 1150 mount was (at least for me..)

Well the bags haven't fallen off and I seemed to have found a compromise in the rear shock preload adjuster mounting, since it hasn't hit anything, so I guess I'm okay in these departments. I have ridden over the worst "paved" roads in Connecticut. I sure hope there isn't a worse paved road than Bolton Road (near Manchester). There is, it's called Hell Hollow Road, but sane people don't ride street bikes on it.
